Wow! Machines taking over peoples lives. Now that’s funny… said the guy at his computer waiting for GoComics to update so he can be one of the first ones to comment.

The joke among programmers is that it would be they doing the controlling of the machines, not the machines themselves.

But with the advent of the PVR, we humans are back in control. No longer slaves to the TV schedule. And if two shows run at the same time, I can watch one and record the other for later. Or I can record them both while streaming a third. Nope, I’m not a slave at all. I just wish the day had more hours, so I could sleep.

It doesn’t happen like in Terminator, but we still let machines control our lives. Pity on us if they ever become self aware… I think I’ll go out for a little while and enjoy nature. Thank goodness for the countryside.

“The singularity.” It’s what Hobbes is describing here, meaning the hypothetical event in which robots get greater intelligence than humans.

Don’t worry, Hobbes. The TV system doesn’t control Calvin. Humans making the TV shows, setting the schedule, and their sponsors are doing that.

Some places politics in any form is wrong and unwanted like here. Tell you what the next time C & H is political you can be so that day here. Otherwise plenty of other places you can be political all the time just not here.

Kind of a non-issue. They had VCRs even when this strip was originally published.

I apologize but After reading all these back and forth comments I feel like I just listened to another silly presidential Debate ! Not that I have listened to much, got better things to do, like watch the grass grow or such. We all have our own opinions and have the rights to them. No matter what you say you may offend someone.

I don’t watch TV very often now. I’m either on my laptop or browsing the net or playing games on my Smartphone. Yes, I’m “one of them”

For whatever it’s worth, I have several TVs, but I only watch one show, “Jeopardy”. It’s on twice a day during the week, so I guess that’s an hour a day for me.

When I was a kid, I legitimately did not get this joke. I had to be an adult to figure it out.
