It would be worse if your mom WOULDN’T give you a reference.

This would be funny if people did not actually do it.

One of the networking groups I attended while looking for work brought this point up. People should have three references “on tap” and at least one of them better be a supervisor and the other two related to you professionally. Coworkers or customers are OK, but the more supervisors you can get, the better.

Oh, and one other thing: get your references’ permissions to use them and know what they are going to say about you.

They recommended not including your pastor as a reference. That advice doesn’t apply to my wife: she works for a church.

Depends if Mom is a CEO of a company. Otherwise, he’s always been a good boy won’t quite do it.
