Wow! That is! – And who knows? I would guess that even worse, they’ve probably had a commercial or something pass their way, that had to have a reference to either John Wayne the person, or “the Duke”, or maybe one of his movies, or something else and didn’t realize that that was the person….

A tip: No wire hangers. Every time I ever packed those up, they’d get hopelessly tangled. Buy plastic, a good investment and they last forever. Plus they keep Mommies Dearest from getting all brutal.

You know, it dawns on me that there are so many major characters who are being retired that perhaps the strip is nearing an end.

First it’s Gunther and Rosa, then Delta; perhaps TJ going to jail would be a way to end his story as well. Who is left?

Luann, her parents, Brad and Toni, Bernice, Tiffany, and Quill.

Maybe it’s time to bring back Aaron Hill and have him compete with Quill for Luann’s attention, just to bring us full circle.

Delta has made it her goal to be a politician: in a America that’s a person who really does not believe in Freedom and ends up being far, far more corrupt than any business.

I do not wish her good luck.

For the most part, Delta’s role in the Luann comic strip has been considerably less significant than her two best friends, Luann and Bernice. True, Delta James is portrayed as this serious politically motivated and community action figure, yet her love interests-the principal highlight for many teenagers-went missing.

Much like Bernice’s interest in Zane, Gunther’s interest in Luann and Rosa, Luann’s interest in Aaron and Quill and Brad’s interest in Diane and Toni, Knutes’s interest in Crystal, Delta has, for the most part, been shown without any serious love interest at all.

Additionally, I believe that showing Delta’s family background would have further enhanced her character. I am quite certain that she had parents and siblings. In light of the changing demographics of this country, especially in California, I am interested in seeing how Mr. Evans will ethnically diversify his comic strip in the coming years. Peace.

By the way, the study of accurate history can be an eye-opening adventure.

As of 2011, Evans colors his own comic….

Uhhhh Sheriff??? Any comment on this?

You don’t make your readers check the papers everyday for a resolution to a storyline and be upset there isn’t one, it shows no respect for your fanbase.

Yes, you do…. Drawn out suspense is a cornerstone of writing. It’s why the most titillating segment of a “magazine” show is always the last shown in that show. “Main event” sort of thing. I could easily see them holding out resolution of the TJ story for a bit longer. They have a lot to do this summer and have to keep all the sub-arc’s moving. By the time we get back to TJ, the adjuster could have finished and we could fast-forward to whether or not the claim is granted or not.

Except you at least know it’s coming that day. And yes, people do use cliffhangers (mostly news programs) to make sure everyone watches their whole show, but it is generally perceived as annoying and frustrating. By doing this, Evans is saying that this new arc isn’t worth our time and needs the awaited resolution pf a previous arc to keep readers checking in. Again, it shows no respect for his fanbase by doing this. People do not enjoy the introduction of new arcs when there is a cliffhanger.

I don’t believe Evans is being that sinister. I simply believe he has a lot of ground to cover between now and the time Sept. begins (as does College, etc.). He still has a bit to clean up (Delta’s departure, etc.). So let’s let Delta have her week, and then we can return to the “cliffhanger.” Yes, I agree that cliffhangers are annoying, but I understand them, and I’m happy enough to wait a week or two… because I do know the answer is coming… maybe not in a day, but I know it’s coming.

    @Eugene Wilson

Eugene, I, too wish Evans could have made Delta a more 3-dimensional character. I think he said he didn’t know what to do with her, which makes me wonder if he thought he wouldn’t know how to write personal stories for a black character. I know sometimes writers are hesitant to write outside of their own experience, but there were so many directions Delta could have gone in the strip (I too wondered about her family, and whether that was why she was so driven in all her activities). You’re absolutely right about the real-life demographics in California and the rest of the country, and I hope we do see some reflection of this as the kids meet new people in their respective universities

“You don’t make your readers check the papers everyday for a resolution to a storyline and be upset there isn’t one, it shows no respect for your fanbase.”-——————————————-Like the Delta and Bernice , Tiffany and Ox Prom storylines that were hinted at but never materialized? Leslie Knox fearing the non-existent cameras, and (still) extorting money from other students in the presence of Miss Phelps and Bernice ?There’s a good chance that we’ll never hear what happened with TJ beyond maybe Brad getting a postcard from Argentina where TJ fled/moved to after the off-strip resolution of an arc Evans grew tired of.

“What are you saying, that Greg is racist?”-————————————————I’m saying that like the old Peanuts cartoon that showed Lucy questioning Linus as to why he drew a picture of a man with his hands behind his back:Lucy : “Is it because you, yourself, have a deep feeling of insecurity?”Linus : “No, it’s because I, myself, cannot draw hands.”Evans doesn’t know what to do with black, Hispanic, or disabled characters, so he must get rid of them.He had many chances to spotlight Delta ’s character in ways not specifically “black” (beyond having a crush on a black teacher), but she always ended up as second-banana to Luann or Bernice .In cases where we actually saw the faces of other students at Pitts HS , none were minorities as I recall.Extrapolate what you will from that.

-@IamJayBlue-Tried to use the reply function on your earlier comment about historic figures, but it failed me. All I got was a box I couldn’t type into or click on.-History has become something that is ignored more and more in our schools, in favor ‘STEM’ subjects that supposedly will guarantee jobs (and don’t, since tech jobs are rapidly being moved overseas, too.)-As someone who continues to be a lifelong student of history, my fears are that we will absolutely keep making the same mistakes, because we aren’t able to learn from the past if we resolutely turn our backs on it….

Dolly Parton wrote it; movie: The Bodyguard, with Kevin Costner

Correct on the songwriter; Not so correct on the movie. Dolly Parton did not sing it in “The Bodyguard”

Correct Movie: “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” in which she did sing it.
