Luann by Greg Evans and Karen Evans for November 27, 2015
Transcript:
Luann: Ok, do Pru and Quill spend lots of time together? Sure, they have a lot in common: theater, new york, the intern program.... Luann: Does she seem to adore him, yes. But Quill says they're just pals-and either I believe him or I don't. And I don't. Luann: Wait. Did I just say "don't"? I meant do. I do believe him. Bernice: Oh, classic Freudian slip.

All Quill is going to need to leave Luann is an opportunity in NYC, which is more than likely right around the corner. Pru or no Pru.
RolloTheGrouch almost 9 years ago
All this is just too obvious. In a real story, Quill would be moving beyond his adolescent girl-friend. But here in Luanniverse, nothing dramatic happens anymore, and things all work out just fine, even if the solution is literally incredible.

Bern is getting in her head, she’s going to draw conclusions that don’t need to be drawn.

I’m still finding Bernice’s attitude puzzling. After all, when Luann originally started to agonize over Quill and Pru, Bernice was as sarcastic about Luann’s worries as she ever is about anything Luann says.
So if Bernice decides something is a problem, it is, but if Luann thinks it might be, then Bernice just laughs? Then why should a reader share Bernice’s conclusion?
Mikel V almost 9 years ago
In my own previous experience, these “pals” eventually turn into lovers. Not that Luann should worry: if Quill falls for Pru, he wasn’t for her. End of the story and walk on.

Excuse me while I climb onto the catwalk and loosen the bolts on the spotlight above Pru’s head.

I don’t think I can take the drama and suspense of this arc anymore…….somebody wake me when it’s over.
Sisyphos almost 9 years ago
Pru lends some real suspense to the saga of Luann’s life. Bernice strikes me more and more as a crabby, mad-at-the-whole-world pre-spinster….

With friends like Bern, who needs enemies. However, Quill seems to be growing beyond the confines of the current relationship. This is not necessarily a bad thing. It’s part of growing up and the college experience.

Pru is too much of a free spirit to want a man anyway, I don’t think Luann should be concerned.

Then you really don’t need to be following this strip,eh Chip86?

And just because Pru has Her hand on Pretty Boy’s “Derriere” in Panel One, It Doesn’t MEAN a Darn Thing, Right Lu?

Luann is just going to have to be a big girl and confront Quill about this. I know she doesn’t want to because she’s still afraid she’s not good enough for him. Still she’s got to do that whole “If you love someone set them free…”

And when the big hat comes off, so does the wig, and Pru becomes Hugh, the flamboyant queen of the stage scene. Quill already knows that, but wait ’till Nancy and Frank find out.
Chuck374 almost 9 years ago
Quill does not appear to be hiding anything that is occurring between Pru and himself. More likely that there is nothing occurring between them than Quill being so slick as to use this ploy to keep Luann unsuspecting.
Guilty Bystander almost 9 years ago
Yeah, Luann, keep listening to Bernice and be suspicious of Quill (It still takes two). That’ll do more to drive him away than anything Pru does.

I thought Bernice was supposed to be Luann’s friend and yet she is causing nothing but trouble.

I think Greg Evans is going to really shake things up and Pru has a girlfriend.

I think Tiff might be a better comic foil. I agree with @argythree on this. I can hear Tiff say, “Yes, Luann, you were too passive and now you’ve lost Quill. Well, I would’ve know how to treat him.”

I don’t believe we don’t know what the show is yet.

I just learned this is a comic strip. Thanks, Old Sarge! I thought it was BBC America. With an Aussie twist.
Airman almost 9 years ago
Of course it’s just a comic strip. Read what Ratbrat said. It’s just fun and escapism like James Bond, but we get to project our own spin on things.

Y’know, I think Pru and Bern are equally obnoxious in the current continuity. Pru probably has a personality disorder but Bernice can be an insufferable know-it-all.
Let’s say Quill falls for Pru. That flame will flare and fizzle in record time because she’s insecure and shallow at core. He’ll be banging on Luann’s door again and they’ll have a wonderful opportunity to make up that they would have missed otherwise.
RSH almost 9 years ago
I’m not all that fond of Pru. Her face and personality give off an essence of being sly and untrustworthy, just like all her answers and comments. The gushy personality, always complementing everyone is a cover-up for something.

Caldonia made an interesting point. We don’t even know what the show is yet. If it’s some sort of play or musical, and if it opens in three weeks, it might be a good idea for the cast to start rehearsing pretty soon now.
Do we know anything about who’s in the show? Will Luann sing? What is Quill doing? We know that Pru wrote it, and intends to direct it, but who’s producing it? Mr. Grey?
mgelly almost 9 years ago
I’m guessing this is another, “don’t judge a book by it’s cover” (Bernice) lesson and Pru is more interested in Luanne than Quill – because everyone just assumes Pru’s into guys.
Argythree almost 9 years ago
I guess I missed something, because I don’t see a comment from a poster called ‘Old Sarge’ on this board. Was it removed, maybe? Can someone paraphrase what was said without getting into any trouble?
ACTIVIST1234 almost 9 years ago
I’m just looking forward to seeing what the play Pru has written and will direct will be. Will it have her and Qu as romantic leads? Lu and Qu as romantic leads? A tail of chipmunks, with Lu as Alvin? Gosh, it’s been at least 3 hours since she got in town— and they haven’t seen the script, much less cast the actors or rehearsed.*Seems like Pru is going to need Lu to make this happen before Hannukah (2 weeks) or Christmas (3 1/2 weeks).

If I was 19-20 years old again I would definitely be in love with Bernice. I like intelligent women.

Some here are really down on Bern. To me, Bern is just being Bern. She was a good and loyal friend when Luann was worried about losing Quill to Pru (when he went to New York). and she’s being a good and loyal friend now. Luann is very impressionable, always taking things at face value… only… even Tarot cards. Bern just tries to get Luann to think more deeply abut things even though she can be critical and abrasive at times; but she’s always on her side. If Piro returns and Bern falls head-over-heels for him, the tables might be turned Bern might need help or advice from Luann.

Honestly, the only person we HAVEN’T heard from is Quill, who’s just kind of there, and has lost a lot of the wit and personality he had in prior arcs.
I think Luann is being a pretty strong person here. If it turns out Quill is cheating on her, I’d like to see if she’s strong enough to take the initiative and initiate the break up with Quill. She’s turning into a strong young woman as it is. She doesn’t know what she wants to do yet, but not everyone does. She’s finding her path and her strengths organically, like her knack with stage design and art, and her love of kids.
Up until now though, Luann has always been the dumpee as far as relationships go. I’d like to see her strength and independence go even further and break up with Quill if he mistreats her.
Ideally though, I hope he doesn’t. Greg drew a very nice “what if” picture of Luann and Quill as a happily married couple with kids, and I’m hoping that does come true. :)

Pru is handing out too many compliments that seams to be fake, she is begging to be liked. I have a suspicion that when all this drama is done that Luann’ worries were mute because Pru will turn out to be lesbian drama queen
