What’s scarier than the things that have been done in the name of these three religions? Maybe that’s the point of the cartoon – not that Wiley would do anything THAT controversial. (This is where my face would have the kind of smile on it that Danae does so well.)
I know rayannina was joking, but seriously – here in the Detroit area, you can see leaders of these three faiths working together, on T.V. discussion panels, at rallies against discrimination, etc. Maybe not a bishop, per se, but still, it does give one hope for humanity. • ⌣ •
Chasm_b ~ That was my take on this cartoon, as well. Historically, when these three get together, nothing good comes of it. That’s why I take comfort, and allow myself to dare to hope, when I see occasional signs of progress and good will here in Detroit.
And, borrowing from John Lennon; imagine all the people pretending they weren’t home, when religion came calling, asking you to kill in the name of God.
Since goverments of the world can’t work together. Lets try religions. Now, if they can only get somebody to answer the door.Happy Halloween Ya’ll !!!
@rayanna and everyone else disparaging what happens when the big three get together:Kids4Peace is an organization that brings together Christian, Jewish and Muslim preteens from Jerusalem and the US. They learn and play together over two weeks. Great program. My son still keeps in touch with his Muslim “peace pal”. kids4peaceusa.org
Hmm, celebrating the eve of all saints’ day, solstice, or whatever, pagan ritual celebrated by folks who “knock” pagans. Hey! They live to dress up EVERY DAY, so what’s different with Halloween???
As a (non-practicing, this-short-of-deliberately-getting-myself-excommunicated) Mormon, I find some of these Mormon comments more than a little hurtful. I’m not terribly religious, but my family is. Folks, none of my family is anything like those Fundamentalists that get the bad press, just as many Muslims are not terrorists. But sheeple are more willing to believe something bad about someone, so I’m basically talking to a collective brick wall, aren’t I?
The third is not a friar—friars don’t wear hats generally. I’d vote for an Imam, thus covering the three “religions of the Book”.++++And as for chasm_b’s “What’s scarier than the things that have been done in the name of these three religions?”I’d put up Hitler’s holocaust, Stalin’s starvation of the kulaks, Pol Pot’s Khmer Rouge killing . . . the list goes on and on.
When I was in university we had the university students’ variation, which started with a mathematician, a scientist, and an engineer. Which one turned out to be right about what they were arguing about depended on which one the joke-teller was.
Mathematicians were content with theory, scientists had to have a connection between theory and reality, and engineers cared only about whether something worked.
An example that we often referred to was a joke about the structure of the bee. It has a barrel-shaped, solid body, and relatively small wings. People (I guess the scientists) derived mathematics that proved conclusively that bees could not fly. (I think this was during WWII, when they were trying to design airplanes and turned to Nature for inspiration.)
The moral of the story? They did not discard bees, they discarded the mathematics. We designed the math, but it was not us who designed the bee.
The ignorance of the comments is exactly why there is little progress and little hope for it, at least in the present generations. You have heaped your bigotry on the “minorities” while keeping the supposed majority, Chritianity, out of the fray. Crusades, anyone? Who kills in the name of G-d?
Take a good look around and notice who the minority really is these days.
The figure on the right is wearing a turban. Jews do not traditionally wear turbans. Education is a wonderful thing. Forget no child left behind;what this country needs is children taught about the world. Teach the basics using the world as the curricular guide. We are raising generations of kids who can only work out of a text book and can’t get along or share because it’s not on the test. They have to win, they can’t handle losing, There is no compromise. No compromise, no peace. No peace, no progress. If there is no progress, people remain ignorant, bigoted, prejudiced and the cycle goes on. What a waste of potential.

I’d answer the door — it’s the only chance I’ll ever have to see three people dressed like that working together!

The third one might be a monk. I don’t know about Mohamed. Mormons (I am one) dress normally like other people.
Wolfdreamer250 over 13 years ago
The third one must be an imam. The equivalent to a priest in the Muslim faith.
