Whistlers aren’t that annoying. Now, those folks who constantly hum off key…

I always ask whistlers if it’s a real song they’re whistling… , or if they’re making it up…They get point’s if they say they’re making it up…If it’s a real song they have to name it…

I’ve heard it said that if the audience is whistling or humming the tunes from an opera as they are leaving the theatre, it’s going to be a hit.

Most annoying are those whistlers whose output sounds like a steam leak.

Nope, none of the above…cell phones! It’s amazing to me how something can be, one and at the same time, a most useful tool and a large pain in the ass!

Whistling, absolutely! Bagpipes, accordions and the others aren’t very pleasant to listen to but those who wander around unconsously whistling in a monotone are the worst.

I cannot stand Country music. Especially the New Country. It is not musical at all, just noise. The best way to describe it is , CRASH—-THUMP, repeat. All the songs sound exactly alike. The guys all sing through their nose and the women scream. I usually can’t understand more than 2 or 3 words in a song. I agree with twypsi about cell phones. I love bagpipes. I’m some past 75, I wear boots and a hat, I work on a ranch and drive a pick up truck.

This is tragic. I have always entertained myself with whistling; Roger Miller is my idol in this area. I guess my gravestone will read, “He annoyed everyone but the bagpipers.”

How ‘bout those while they work, study or vegetate? So, she doesn’t like. . . yes, hear it now. But then there are those in the dark or just afraid and much more… dilemma…hey Danae, what you started. . .

I worked with a guy who would absentmindedly sing “Carolina Moon”— just those two words. Over and over. I taught him “—keep shining,” and so now he does the four words. I myself am a whistler, so I guess we balance out.

What annoys me the most of all is to start running a tune in my head after I go to bed, and not being able to stop it. (It makes getting to sleep even harder!)

goweederIt is “off-key”, it is in the pentatonic scale. Indian classical music should bother you even more, it has a 30+ scale within the octave, only five or six used in a given raga. To the developed ear, both can be great.

I’d say nail clipping over whistling, but luckily that can’t go on as long as the horrible sound of whistling—even in tune it’s torture

I unknowingly, whistled-very quietly- all the time and until someone at work finally told me that it was annoying did I realize I was doing it. Just a habit, that I had had for years

Anybody remember Alec Templeton? If his whistling annoyed anyone he couldn’t tell from their facial expression because he was blind…plus he made a pretty good living at it because a lot of folks bought his records. I know…I’m kinda dating myself, but that’s ok….I’m glad I was around to hear Charlie Parker “live.”
