As an FYI… The Sackler family founded and own the pharmaceutical companies Purdue Pharma and Mundipharma. They have faced lawsuits regarding over prescribing of addictive drugs, including OxyContin, and been criticized for their role in the opioid epidemic in the United States.
Which movie? Gene Wilder or Johnny Depp. Depp was much more mean than Wilder, who pleaded with the brats not to disobey the rules, although not vehemently.
As a child I really liked the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and was excited to see the movie Willy Wonka …. This is the movie that taught me that books are always better than movie adaptations. I remember asking my mom why the movie was so different from the book, and so bad. I also couldn’t watch Gene Wilder in anything until I was an adult.

“Distant relative”? What makes you think he’s probably distant?

Verne is not completely wrong – Willy Wonka is not 100% goodness.

Plus, those Oompa Loompa songs are really annoying.

This is why the book is so much better than the movie. But I have to say, I do like Wilder’s movie

Looked like a legal cartel to me for years. Glad they got em.

Calm down, Verne, it’s just a movie! And this coming from someone who doesn’t like both film versions of the book.

I know I’m in the minority, but I think Roald Dahl wrote truly warped stuff

I assume the chocolate factory is much more of an arcology, with chocolate as currency and consumable good. That makes it slightly less abhorrent.

Don’t get Verne started on “The Wizard of OZ”.

As does I! We cocoa lovers must unite against this evil strip! Lets make RJ a coon skin hat and Vern in to soup.

Does Verne think they should be paid in chocolate coins instead?

I never cared for the story. Wonka came off as creepy and the kids weren’t any shining examples.

The fact Verne is talking during the movie, regardless of about what, is the reason you should hate him… and serve him as soup.
