Just wait a second, I think I hear a baby being born. Yep,…add one more to the total.

A special talent like that deserves to be put in the Guinness Book of Records.

I find myself wishing that the world population was still about the same. There would be fewer traffic jams, it would be easier to buy a house or feed the poor. Humans would do less damage to the environment.

…and keep track of how many!

It is unfathomable that the Earth’s population has more than doubled since this strip came out 47 years ago. Doubled!

Only comic logic works here. It would take more than a lifetime just to count all the people let alone name them.

And it took 171 years to go from 1 billion to 3.419 billion. And 47 short years to go to 8 Billion. Too damn many people.

She forgot me!

You forget the matter-of-fact mention of those people living in their country they call Nod.

By the time you state the number to that degree of accuracy it’s wrong because of the additional people who are born.

No, she only named the people with Anglo-Saxon names, plus a couple Germans. That, and Lucy clearly can’t count.

Google says 7.442 billion right now… roughly double of Linus’ 1960s (?) number. Lol, Lucy’s list would have much more interesting names now. Just today I met a little girl named “Avalon.”

That’s a weird bunch of names Lucy came up with. Where’s Tyler, Chase, Jordan, Hunter and Parker?

She mentions Lee (Mendelson) and Bill (Melendez), the producer and animator of the Peanuts TV specials. Why not Vince (Guaraldi) the jazz composer of the scores? Later she adds Schulz’s three daughters; Amy, Jill and Meredith – but not his sons, Monte and Craig.
