Poor Linus. Santa mixed with Halloween mixed with BIBLE language. No wonder that kid has problems.

That’s my problem with religion. One slightly crazy guy makes up a story, then a crazier one makes it worse.

Hell look at the positive side of the situation Linus, at least you will not rot your teeth out with a bunch of sugar laden treats or get a bag full of rocks like your buddy Chuck.

One time I saw Chris Rock do a short take on good old Chuck, he could not figure out why Chuck was an outcast in his neighbor hood because Chris said everyone in his hood would be hanging out with Chuck if they knew he had a bag full of rocks ;)

Linus seems to have confused the GP with God. But then a lot of people treat God like Santa Claus, so I guess it fits.

Sorry Linus. You just lean on your pumpkin. And think how the rind of life has squashed your dreams before you get so depressed you are out of your gourd.

Right on, Linus. Most native speakers have no command of the second person singular. I regularly use it to translate other languages. Irish doesn’t even have a formal “you”. I praise thee, Linus, for th’art keeping thyself safe from Corona by not going around the neighborhood for treats.

But on a serious note: It really is too bad that the Charlie Brown Halloween special has been moved to the pay-per tier on TV this year.

Psalms of the Great Pumpkin? Guess that should be Psalm 152 (FYI, I’m Orthodox so we have a 151st Psalm). Or is the the Song of Linus?

And now, thanks to Apple, the holiday Peanuts specials we all grew up with, that meant the holiday season to so many of us, are denied to the networks. It’s just not Halloween, Thanksgiving and especially Christmas without Charlie and the gang. To not hear Linus quoting Luke 2: 8-14 and then saying “that’s what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown” is just sad.

This is an excellent allegory of a prophet wandering in the desert…and I must admit I’d much prefer wandering the pumpkin patch…

I can’t believe that didn’t work, even with using ‘thou’, ‘wilt’, ‘hast’, and ‘thy’! Gods usually love those words!

And a voice rises up out of the pumpkin patch

“Why hast thou not succoured me in mine hour of need. For I am cold and can’st see thou in the dark. Give me a candle to put in my mouth, ye little twerp!”

Just keep believing Linus and someday, if you try hard enough, the great pumpkin will rise out of that pumpkin patch and give toys to all the good girls and boys.

Linus is quoting fragments of verses from at least four different Psalms:

“Why hast thou cast me off?” Psalm 43:2

“How long wilt thou hide thyself from me?” Psalm 13:1 (also Psalm 88:14, Psalm 89:46)

“Mine enemies reproach me all the day!” Psalm 102:8

“Bring thou me out of my distress!” Psalm 25:17

Sparky knew his Bible, and quoted from or alluded to it frequently. (Here’s a good article, fairly recent: https://www.theatlantic.com/culture/archive/2016/04/the-spirituality-of-snoopy/479664/ )
