Pearls Before Swine by Stephan Pastis for February 25, 2015
Transcript:
Rat: I had a dream that a monkey was trying to market his own brand of cinnamon, but didn't want to use the word cinnamon. Goat: What did he want to use? Rat: A word that meant the same thing, but I couldn't think of any, so he said that meant I was a sinner who would one days go to hell. Goat: Whoa. That dream sounds like some kind of omen. Rat: What kind of omen? Goat: A simian cinnamon synonym sin omen. Rat: You're the one going to hell.

Oh, what a tongue twister to say 5X fast.
Durandal_1707 almost 10 years ago
I think the word he was looking for was “cassia.”

If you really like tongue twisters, try this one::I’m not the pheasant plucker or the pheasant plucker’s son, but I can pluck a lot of pheasants ’til the pheasant plucker comes.

Pastis is so good at them, if bad puns condemned a man to hell, he would be the Devil himself!
SR almost 10 years ago
Well, Stephen could always ape-ologize.

Heavenly tongue twister.

I didn’t groan at this one. It is so well done that it doesn’t even sound contrived. Bravo, Pastis

I knew where this one was going when I saw the first frame but I kept going. I have no one to blame but myself. Pastis must be a verb. I have been Pastised.

I had a dream, too! —That Cartoon Boy was going to Hell, but that he rattled off a few of his choice puns and tongue-twisters at the gate, left Satan rolling on the floor laughing his fat red a$$ off, and escaped to the Better Place! It was a nightmare.

No Rat, Endtown is.

As a fellow recovering law dude, I can’t help but to wonder if Pastis didn’t slip a few puns in on his legal work. I saw some great ones in my studies and some questionable ones while clerking.

Pastis does know how to torture the language! :D

Whenever I see that Patsis is setting up a pun (which is often!) I cover the last two panels and try to figure out where he’s going. I made it pretty far this time – I had Cinnamon Synonym and Sin Omen, but couldn’t come up with Simian. You win again, Patsis.

Would Goat really have fallen for this though?

Anyone think Tim Rickard (Brewster Rockit) and Pastis have a bet going for who can do the worst pun this week?

I get the warm fuzzies reading this strip and the comments thereupon. Its good to know that there are so many weirdos still out there. Just like that quote from the ancient, in black and white no less, sit com with Jackie Gleason where he told his next door neighbor, “Norton, somewhere there is a candle burning in the window of a nut house becoming you home.” Trouble is you can’t see any candles in windows anymore; fire hazard and all. When will the government get out of our lives?
Thudfark over 9 years ago
I usually get a good chuckle out of these and it helps to lighten the load. Laughter, as they say, is the best medicine. Case in point: the other week I was constipated, after reading a few strips I was laughing so hard I almost crapped my pants. Thanks for helping to bring out the wurst in me.

I don’t want to know the thought process in thinking up these puns.
