Pearls Before Swine by Stephan Pastis for March 08, 2015
Transcript:
Goat: Hey, Pig, where were you? Pig: At that new James Bond-themed restaurant. The servers are all bond villains and each controls a different faction of the restaurant. Goat: Sounds fun. Pig: Yeah. And each server will only sit you in their area if you know a lot about the movie they were in. Goat: Really? Pig: Yeah. So if your party knows a lot about 'moonraker.' You can be in the 'jaws sat us,' faction. Goat: I see. Pig: Like I can get into 'Goldfinger sat us' faction because I know a lot about 'Goldfinger.' Goat: That's great. Is Dr. No there? Pig: Yeah, but I don't know a lot about the 'Dr. No' film. Goat: So? Pig: So I can't get 'no sat us' faction. Rat: Would you rather be shaken stirred?

Apparently Pig/Stephan aren’t the Bond fans they claim or they would no that the villain in Moonraker isn’t Jaws, but Draco.

Since when did the pun when from 007 to The Rolling Stones?
Kaputnik over 9 years ago
Just once I’d like to see the guys congratulating Stephan on his puns, rather than threatening him. But I suppose being a cartoonist is an Odd Job.

Aw, come on! Nobody mentions “The Man with the Golden Pun” already?
I expected Moore.
jmarkoff2 over 9 years ago
As soon as pig mentioned “sat us faction” I knew this was leading up to the Stones song title.

HAHA. Rat, the enforcer!
awgiedawgie Premium Member over 9 years ago
The best part of these strips is seeing what Rat (and any of the others) will threaten to do to Pastis… well, that, and the fact that Stephan actually knows just how bad his puns are!
jreckard over 9 years ago
I don’t think I’ve ever been “sat”, while several servers have seated me.
At the restaurant next door, I got there early and I knew a lot of Irene Cara trivia, so my Fame preseated me.

I vaguely remember writing a song like this. Signed Keith Richards.

From the setup, I was expecting a pun involving Octopussy or Pussy Galore, and wondering how he got it past the censors. Hey, they’re MPAA approved movie titles, it’s okay to say them.
seanyj over 9 years ago
You guys notice Stephan doesn’t use Zebra or the Crocs too much anymore? What gives?

I love the sense of anticipation in reading Pearls when you know one of these plays on words is coming up!

Today’s pun was a good one! :) This genre used to be called the Shaggy Dog story. (Does everyone know the one about the knight riding a dog on a rainy evening?)

Is Pastis talking about the Bond-themed bar in Milwaukee? (if it’s still there. It’s been awhile.)

Curious – in my local paper they published a strip dated 3/22 in which Rat explains how telephone with cords worked to some teenagers. “How do you drive around with them” they asked?

i like the puns. he’s welcome to dinner at our house. this is the kind of joke my dad loves. although i suspect, pastis may get satisfaction but he has trouble getting laid.

Add me as one who loves the puns! I actually laughed out loud at this one.

No more puns! noooo moooore puns!
Sisyphos over 9 years ago
I can’t get no satisfaction from Cartoon Boy when he blends Bond, the Rolling Stones, and puns! But he does get a beat-down from the whole cast of the ‘toon, Pig, Goat, and Rat. So it is sort of Bond-ian and satisfying in that respect.[The link is to a 1969 Age of Love concert, with a cameo by Janis Joplin. Now, that’s Satisfaction!]

His puns are brilliant! And the comments from everybody are brilliant!

@jmarkoff2 i agree. What i like about these pun strips is that they sometimes use quotes im not aware of, so i kill more time googling them.
