There are two groups in this society that I canât stand. Some people are hyper sensitive and thin-skinned, and you have walk on egg shells around them, because theyâre so easily offended. And then there are others who are just rude and insulting, pretend that being a rude jerk is brave and honest. And they call it âpolitical correctnessâ to object to their total lack of decent manners.
And these are often the same person. People who insult others, but whine like children when they think itâs aimed at THEM.
When did the word âstewardessâ become âbadâ (âpolitically incorrectâ?) Itâs merely the female version of âstewardâ, which I believe is still considered a respected position on board ships. In fact, on a ship, the position of âstewardâ carries more authority and respect than a mere âattendantâ.
I do remember the first time I encountered the term âflight attendantâ, but it was used to refer to a man, who clearly didnât want to be called âstewardessâ (and maybe wasnât familiar with the term âstewardâ?).
Growing up I was taught it was politeness not âpolitical correctnessâ. It only seems polite not to use words that bring needless pain but I guess politeness is passe now.

I remember once back in the 90s being on a flight where this one elderly woman was motioning to the flight attendant and saying, âOh waitress!â

It will be Ratâs fate to be served by androgynous male flight attendants from now on.

I like Rat! More Anti-PC for me!
So, just take your lumps, Cartoon-Boy. If it helps, consider yourself a martyr for the cause of Liberated SpeechâŠ.
