Wait, if Earl was making a sandwich today, it’s probably a leftover turkey sandwich. And who the heck puts mustard on a turkey sandwich?
I can almost accept that some misguided individuals thing Miracle Whip is permissible instead of mayo, but mustard is just a little too far outside the box. (Personally, I use cranberry sauce.)
Perspective. Or to call up the saying, “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference”
Looks like Mr. Crane’s assistants just cut and pasted a wig on Nelson instead of taking the trouble to draw Sylvia correctly. Normally, Sylvia is drawn as thinner and certainly older looking than today’s offering.
It is actually a true commentary on how some people think. There are real problems in this life that are genuinely painful. But some folks think something like what our character Earl experienced is a problem. Some people bitch, moan and complain about the most insignificant things. It can boggle the mind.
You have to shake up the mustard every day, before you use it out of a squeeze container. The vinegar separates rather quickly and comes to the top. Thus, yellow liquid with the first squeeze.

Talk to a brick wall Sylvia. The results will be the same.

I don’t know but what Earl doesn’t have the right attitude. You can’t do much about the world, but you can shake the mustard bottle.

Shake, shake, shake your mustard, shake it real fine
You can make it better, gotta shake it all the time†
Shake, shake, shake your mustard, shake it real well
‘Cause if you don’t shake it, you get pale yellow gel.
† Sorry about that non-rhyme.

Earl worries about the things that affect his daily life. He can’t do much about the rest.

He made Roscoe look cross-eyed.

I wish everyone’s life can be so “horrible” as this. LOL

Earl certainly knows how to put things in perspective.

It’s certainly a first-world problem, but Earl’s not wrong. There’s nothing worse than mustard lymph on your hot dog. Ewg!

I hate when that happens to the ketchup bottle, Earl!

Was it at least, Dijon water?

Everything is relative, sweetie, and Earl is one relative you don’t try to talk sense to.

Sylvia, at least you got a listening ear.

Poor Roscoe…woken out of a sound sleep for this?

Must have been new fangled mustard as in the old days no mustard was squeezable

Just wonderful script today , the precious Roscoe in three panels and in panel two that right eye open is a stitch . Thanks Brian for this .

Y’know in a way this is poignant. Earl is trying to help Sylvia pay attention to what matters in her immediate world. It’s hard to do these days.

Gotta shake it..!!!! – Duhhhhhhh……. everyone knows THAT..!!!!
poppacapsmokeblower about 4 years ago
This is why some squeeze bottles are made to be stored top down. That way only the person using the last of the mustard gets baby poop yellow water.

Here’s my recipe for sandwich spread: 2 tablespoons mayo, 2 tbs sour cream, 1 tbs cranberry sauce, 2 teaspoons dark mustard, 2 teaspoons Trader Joe’s Harissa. Mix well and keep in fridge. You’re welcome.

There should be a notice on the container to shake well before squeezing.

I hope Brian Crane does not count his approval by the number of comments. Sometimes the best comics just don’t trigger any reply from me.

Well said Earl from this 20-year retiree from DOD National Security and Emergency Preparedness - FUBAR-it!

I’ve never bought cranberry sauce since I discovered how well pepper jelly goes with turkey. It’s good on a turkey sandwich also.
Teto85 Premium Member about 4 years ago
Get better mustard or at least shake the bottle before you squeeze.
Moonkey Premium Member about 4 years ago
It doesn’t look like Roscoe got any of the sandwich. He seems to be saying, “Hey! What sandwich?”

I feel exactly the same way, Earl.

When you get too old to shake the mustard, you probably can’t “cut the mustard” anymore.

Same with ketchup. I hate getting ketchup juice!

That’s why I ALWAYS shake the mustard bottle before I use it.
