Being free, getting ran over by a speeding motorist. Yep, that’s the life.

Our cat is 98% indoors but when she DOES go outside, she drinks out of all the nastiest puddles… and turns up her nose, inside, unless the water is moving!

Many years ago, and several dogs ago, one of our veterinarians told me that minerals in tap water can cause problems for some dogs’ stomachs. Since then, they’ve all had only refrigerated bottled water.

Feral cats want your life Muffin. To be in a home where you’re fed loved and cuddled and have places to rest your weary fluff. Outdoor kitties don’t have all that and don’t live as long.

Our cats get bottled water. I refuse to drink that stuff from the tap so why should they?

When we let the cat out in the morning, he makes a beeline for the birdbath for a drink. Guess he likes the taste of bird feet.

Yes – whether it came straight from the tap, or out of a bottle, it is tap water.

I had a cat who was a connoisseur of “wild water”. On our walks she would stop at every puddle, creek and river to sample the water at length. Of course, rambling walks with a human is thirsty work. She never complained about the water at home, although we both knew it was just passably potable.

My grandson’s cat wouldn’t drink filtered or bottled water. Just tap.

Our cat never drinks the water we give him, regardless of where it’s from. He’d rather drink from dripping faucets he finds outside or the neighbor’s pool, which is bad for his health.

Yes, absolute liberty is wonderful, but a life of risk. Acceptable to many.

Had an ex-feral cat who would not drink tap water, would always go for puddles of muddy and maybe contaminated water. It wore off, but it took about five years…

No you don’t want to be feral, your life expectancy is about 3 years and your death is usually unpleasant. TNR they deserve their own lives they do not deserve to make more. It works.

Tap water should be at room temperature for cats. They like to drink water as long as it is not too cold or too warm.

I just read this entire thread. Having never had a cat as a pet, I had no idea that they were such connoisseurs of drinking water. Another reason to stick to doggies as animal companions!
