Back in the 90s I was doing lots of detail work on the computer — drawing dendrograms, mind maps, spiral graphs, layered line charts, and the like (the boss believed that a picture is worth a thousand words and many pictures are worth millions). I developed a weird pain in my elbow and couldn’t lift my arm above my shoulder. The doctors diagnosed tennis elbow (which was rather humorous since I definitely lacked the physique for doing so). They prescribed physical therapy and recommended getting an ergonomic keyboard and an appropriate chair. However, workman’s comp denied the claim and passed the bills on to insurance which wouldn’t pay either. They went back and forth for months and in the meantime the office wouldn’t provide the chair or keyboard. Finally, it went before the workman’s comp board of appeals and they showed me on the paperwork that I only had 14% of a problem with carpal tunnel and that wasn’t sufficient to claim a work-related injury. I took the form from the chairman’s hand and turned the page over, where it showed 87% for tennis elbow. They paid.
The keyboard and proper chair (and the therapy exercises) did their job and I was able to continue generating pretty pictures until the project was completed and I went on to bigger and better things. I do recommend that people who spend 8-10 hours a day working or playing on a computer pay attention to how they do it. Have a decent chair and sitting style and get up and move around the room every half hour or so and wring your hands out for a minute or two. It helps relax the muscles and, if you are in an office, it gives you a chance to startle the others.
I know it’s late and I’m kind of grumpy. And I’m old. But I can’t resist saying that if. as a kid , I . O I had laughed and pointed at an elderly person, something on ME would have been hurting. (Even if only my ears from the lecture I would have gotten). Okay, I’ll shut up now and grump my way towards bed, lol.
Both of us have long hair – so easy to care for and his goes well with looking 18th century as he wears it all the time pulled back into a “queue” (ponytail) – with a ribbon tied around it and over the rubberband holding it in same when we do reenacting. When it needs a trim I do it for him.
I put my hair with a plastic clip normally and with a longish metal barrette when we do reenacting (as easier to fit/hide under my cap than the clip). When my hair needs a trim I put it in a rubber band and toss it forward over my head, pick how much shorter it should be and snip – done – does not matter if even as it is always put up when I go out and generally when in the house also.

what about the other shoulder?

For me, it’s the lower back and spine. Not much hair to comb. And forget a big moustache—-way too messy for a plugger.

Is that why Boris Johnson’s hair was always such a mess?

The way my body feels, if I had hair I think it would hurt as well!

What is this “hair” thing?

I just use my left hand when my right shoulder is protesting. Just glad my body doesn’t establish a picket line.

I comb my hair. It stands up like Einstein’s every time I start thinking.

I excuse it as perpetual ‘hat hair’. But I have to wear a knit cap year round.

When I get a migraine headache (fortunately rarer these days) I can feel each and every hair root and they feel like needles.
