I saw a few fulgurites in person at the (really great) Peabody Museum of Natural History. They’re quite impressive to see.

One word concerning fulgurites: awesome.

Fulgurites are fascinating.

I would like to see a fulgurite and Rob Gough is an idiot.

I has seen lotsa lightning but never fulgurites.

I can remember, in about 1984, seeing a 1952 Mantle at a card shop, PSA 7, for $1000. I had the money and did not buy it. A quick check shows a grade 7 Mantle can be had for a mere $350,000. A opportunity missed is an opportunity lost.

There’s a fulgerite on display at the Boston Science Center.

Hard to see the details in the card, even at 300% but it is very elaborate.

Always wanted a fulgurite. Next lightning storm I’ll be out in the yard waiting to get one.

$45 million plus and the old argument. Which would you do, buy a basically useless card, or . . .? The choices are endless.

Five million dollars for a freakin’ piece of cardboard. That may be the stupidest thing I read all day. But… it’s still early.

I remember, during my very short-lived Baseball Card collecting days, a kid showing me his Babe Ruth card, which was also supposed to be a rare one…

Surprised at the uproar over that original Christmas card. Children were allowed to drink wine on special occasions in many European cultures then and now.

A community college here had something similar to fulgerites in the display case in the science wing. They are roughly cylindrical. If you look closely, there is a wire in the center of each one.

You gotta be smart to build up huge deposits of disposable money. You gotta be eccentric to spend it on a baseball card (or art collections).

Why would it take 3 years for the kid to sober up and make another card?

Sand and clay? So, that’s how the Creator made man.

For that kind of money I would have expected a much better sound from the spokes of my Schwinn Corvette.

Back in the late 50’s, I used one of those Mickey Mantle cards to make my bike sound like a motorcycle!

On the topic of lightning and fulgurites, the lightning “we see” actually rises from the ground to the sky.Sorry to break your bubble.

It must be nice to be able to throw away $5.2million on a baseball card. I wouldn’t pay $52 on one.
