The milk from my local Costco is double sealed, and you need pliers to open it. On the other hand, it routinely lasts 7-10 days past the expiration date.
The Safeway brand milk from our local Safeway is single-sealed and routinely lasts ALMOST up to the sell-by date. We first suspected our fridge, but other brands last up to a week, even 10 days longer than their own brand.
II had to purchase a new quart of milk this afternoon . . . The one I had was past the expiration dateby a few days . . Good thing I finally noticed it when I tried to pour it out into a glass, it came outin chunks . . Dumped the rest down the kitchen sink and made the trip into town.

But what if it’s the refridgerators date that’s up?

Nah, try the sniff test first. If it is borderline, test it on the cat.

Unless it’s Meijer’s brand; then its time is up about 3 or 4 days before the “sell by” date.

“Best before” does not mean “Bad after.” Use your nose…
IMHO, expiration dates are mainly used to sell more product.
BTW, the only expiration dates that are government mandated are on baby formula. All others are determined by the vendor.

You can go on beyond your expiry date, but the quality-of-life declines quickly.

Sour milk is best for baking. Next time you have some that goes bad, try making pancakes with it.

Sometimes, it depends on the brand.

I use the smell test. “Sell by” dates are just indicators, not the law.
