In 1896, when John W. Alexander produced this artwork it created quite a scandal in Victorian England and beyond. Not because of the subject matter, but because it was a forgery of stolen artwork . It was during this time that discoveries in ancient Egypt were nearing their peak and archeologist were uncovering a wealth of treasures. The original painting, which was smuggled out of Egypt by Mary (May) Brodrick FRGS ( April 5,1858 â July 13,1933) was a British archaeologist and Egyptologist who was one of the first female excavators in Egypt. She had discovered the original artwork hanging it what she theorized was a Stone Masons recruiting office. Somehow, Alexander had managed to steal the painting from her and smuggled it into America. Unfortunately, one night in a drunken stupor he decided to paint over the original with a scene showing bulldogs playin poker.
When Hefratiti the Hooker was told that sheâd raise to great heights in her profession, she never dreamed that this was what they meant. Sheâd been hammered by enough chiselers on the ground.
This reminds me of a cartoon I saw waybackinthewayback in Model Railroader, where a sexy naked lady is striking a pose next to a man in traditional engineerâs garb whoâs intent on his layout. The man says: âDammit, woman, Iâve got a railroad to run!â
I did find this gem though:

/// The man wears a g-string and cap.
The girl? See-through cloth drapes her lap.
Stones at neck, band in hair.
Nothing else does she wear.
While he works, she just stares at the chap.
/// In old Egypt, both risk a sun burn.
For the stone carver she seems to yearn.
Though the manâs hieroglyphic
may, when done, be terrificâ
not the girlâs âoverarchingâ concern.
/// On his scaffold she poses and waits
âtil his hammer and chisâling abates.
Does she long for her face
to be carved in that place?
Or just hungrily seeking his dates?
