I can’t understand the people that use plastic or paper plates for dishes around the home. I have everyday plates by Corel and they simply rinse off after each use.
Siblings took turns doing dishes when I was a kid and if the next day you found 3 dishes that weren’t “Mom” clean than someone had to take an extra day.
Neighbor Folks all around me love to use paper products outside. My yard and ditches are witness to their negligence and waste. I wish they would hold their TO DO’s in their kitchen and dining rooms. Some never learn beyond ignorance.
When I was 11 my mother told me that washing the dishes became my daily responsibility. Somehow, due to my extreme "clumsiness, I managed to break something almost every day. Less than 1 month later my mother told me to stop doing the dishes. After I was married my wife asked me to wash the dishes and somehow, once again, my extreme clumsiness, I broke a few and she told me to stop. I did buy an automatic dishwasher soon after Sears started carrying them
To really not be a Born Loser here, dad should wash and son should dry. Switch as needed. Bonding time. It also goes quicker and makes it more tolerable, even fun. Plus if something isn’t washed well, the dryer just passes it back to be redone.
Why use plates, then, Brutus? Just have Gladys slop the food right on the table and you can eat with your hands. Though I would advise using this technique when Gargle is over for meals; might be easier to get rid of her.

And then she uses every single pot and pan to make dinner. You can’t win.

When I was Wilberforce’s age, I would have needed just a bit more motivation. The conversation would have gone as follows.
Aw, dad, how come?
Because you get to help dad with the dishes tonight.
Aw dad, I helped mom with the dishes last night.
Just do it… It builds character.

To reuse a paper plate you just scrape and then erase.
