“In his lifetime the Babe became baseball’s homerun king but what most people don’t know is that he also became the strikeout king. This just goes to show that if you want to score you have to keep on swinging. So, if you don’t swing, don’t ring”. This was on a doorbell plate of a character in some dime store paperback novel I read sometime in the middle of last century. The character was a private eye-hotrod racer-surfer. Pretty exciting for a teen at the time. I can’t remember the name of the book, but I still remember the doorbell plate inscription. I learned later that it was also on the doorbell plate of the Playboy mansion.
As Babe Ruth was well before my time, I like to think of two hitters, Boog Powell and Hank Aaron. Boog was heavy set like the Babe and did a lot of strikeouts as he swung for that homerun. But, my man Hank would usually get some kind of hit if not the illusive homerun. Brutus should model himself after brother Hank and accomplish something on the the way to stardom.
Chin(s) up Brutus – as Wayne Gretzky said, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” Although Wayne might have added a Thornapple Corollary to that if he knew Brutus: “and pretty much the same amount of shots you do take.”
Babe Ruth did strike out a lot but he also hit a lot of home runs. and is one of the greatest home run hitters in baseball. Each swing could be a home run. Run with that Brutus and let a swing and a miss fall where it may…..
Well, Babe was Babe, and Brutus is Brutus. But I doubt that even the Babe could have put up with all the indignities of life that Brutus has to tolerate, and I’ll guess that (currently, at least) Brutus has a few more fans than the Babe. Go, Brutus!

Do I want to know how many strikes you’ve gotten so far, Brutus?

I know who Babe Ruth was, but the rest of their speech is Chinese to me.

For Babe Ruth, every strike brought him closer to the beer cooler stashed in the clubhouse.

It’s okay, Brutus, the Chief will never fire you, he wouldn’t have a ready-made scapegoat.

He really should have a positive outlook on life, things are so low now they couldn’t possibly get any worse.

Hey Brutus, with the new pitch clock in the MLB, you can strikeout without even coming up to the plate, so there is that.
