What did the boss mean? That Brutus wastes time working?

Why would Brutus ever talk to him?

As much as that?

Like a train with its whistle blowing I knew that was coming.

Not sure how that 4-day workweek would work. Would they work 10 hour days 4 days a week or 8 hours? If so they’d need second jobs to make ends meet.

Those coffee breaks add up.

Clever word play. “In favor of that” – something an optimist would say.

“I would not be averse to that” – something a pessimist would say who was trying to sound like an optimist but couldn’t right make it work.

In the end, Brutus became the originator of the ‘work’ week.

I agree with Veeblefester here, though he’s a bit optimistic if he thinks many empolyees put in 3 days of work. To be fair to Brutus though, I think he puts in more work than 3 days per week

I tried it with my company. Your employees work four days at ten hours per day and then they have a three day weekend. Here are some of the reasons why we scrapped it.

First you need to hire more employees. Most companies are based on an eight hour day, five days per week, while those who run twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week can not evenly divide twenty-four hours by ten. So, you wind up with shifts that don’t work and you have to have stop gap people to fill in. Second, people that work the ten hours and have a three day weekend come back tired and almost needing retraining. I don’t know why they are more tired than when they worked eight hours per day. Didn’t make sense. Ten hours is a long day and work production suffered. Third, breaks, they needed more and they spent more time on those breaks. Fourth, when they called in “sick”, no one wanted to work overtime to fill their position. I mean, another four hours or more of work, after ten hours shift. Fifth, accidents increased. People weren’t as alert near the end of their shift or the second day on, during a four day week. People didn’t have the energy to work well on the second, third, and fourth day.

I think that you get the picture. I put everyone back to work on the standard eight hour day and won’t go back to a ten hour day.

I preferred the 4 day, 10 hour shifts we had.

I hired out at the RR in 1969 and was on a extra board , they just called when they needed you ,but they needed you all the time so we worked 16 hours a day 7 days a week. Now the laws won’t let them do that.

Ha. So Bossman would gain by Brutus working 4 days instead of his usual 3. But, it’s true. There are guys and gals that only work a portion of the time, while others work more than their time. I was always a hard worker, staying busy with little down time. But, I knew quite a few that wouldn’t miss a chance to not work at all. Doing the hard work wasn’t the problem as I enjoyed working. But, when the layabouts got paid more than I did, then I got sore.

For a few Summers, my work tried 4 9-Hour days, then a half-day on Friday. We loved it! After the first week of that, we all went to a movie when we left work that Friday…

Poor Brutus. He tries so had to be helpful but just keeps getting slammed. When will he ever learn about subjects he shouldn’t raise with the Boss at the risk of getting leveled. Like everything!

When l was a Police Officer l worked 4 10 hour shifts. lt was okay. The big perk was that it allowed me to go to Law School. However, for four years, l had no life. However,I think the four day work week being talked about is a 32 hour work week. As a Boss l would say no, but l would consider the 4 day at ten hours. However, looks like Brutus would have an uphill fight even with that idea…..

According to C.H. Douglas we could fulfill all the necessary production in the economy with only 25% of the workforce working 7 hours a day, but we need a way to provide the other 75% the purchasing power to buy it.
