I have, despite lacking a completed formal education, been friends with a number of “professors.” I did discover that they are experts (quite proficient) in their fields, but are, on occasion, woefully ignorant of many other aspects of life … minds in the clouds. I believe this made them quite interesting.
My mom was a professor. I’m honestly a little surprised, given what I know about Rose, that her mom isn’t a professor too. I wonder what her parents do?
The older professors I knew had very robust senses of humor with a bent towards practical jokes that would probably get them locked up nowadays. One time, after the upper management made a very unpopular decision, I wrote a very sarcastic fake memo from the management for my own amusement, but made the mistake of showing it to one of the old professors. He said “That’s very very good…may I borrow it for a minute?” Uh oh. The next day, everyone had copies of it in their mailboxes (paper mail) and the management was not amused. The prof just told me “keep your mouth shut and you’ll be fine” so I did, and I lived to tell about it.
The young professors these days just aren’t that entertaining…

“Wallace, am I about to meet a REAL professor?”
Rose should be glad that she isn’t meeting Professor Moriarty. He was a real professor but a very dangerous one.

The first thing Rose wants to know from the Professor is how to make a radio out of coconuts.

I taught college for 40 years. I never got this sort of reaction. :)
