Google searches are only as good as the person that uses it as one of many tools. Of course, RWers, like Al here probably prefer to get their information from Conservapedia. That is if Fox, OANN, Newsmax, and Qanon aren’t dictating how they should think.
Republicans think that anything that doesn’t glorify them, is biased toward them. All search engines are biased. Get over it. Certainly if I search for inhumane stupid decisions made by politicians, the GOP pope up first!
Is this the first time EVER that I’ve agreed with ol Al? In any case: Google (and Yahoo and bing and …) all make their living by selling user clicks. And they enhance that by noticing which sort of things you click and putting similar things near the top of their results. To avoid that, you should use a search engine that doesn’t track your clicks. Duckduckgo, Gibiru, Oscobo and several others simply give you the results of your search. It’s best to use such engines if at all possible.
Is Google legally obligated to be “unbiased” (however that would be measured)? Does it operate under a standard different from Wikipedia or Fox Nuts? As Concretionist points out above, there are alternatives.
I am not defending Google, just wondering if there are required criteria of fairness for search engines and if so, what they are or should be.
Twitter and Google say they will not be deploying their Nazi/Fascist hunting algorithm because it can’t distinguish between republican and white supremacists.
I have begun to suspect that the algorithms used by Google and Bing and others might show a bias in favor of certain corporate wishes. For instance, I know that a certain medication I take has had its prime ingredient cut in half. But, I can find no proof of that on the internet. Some pharmacists have verified my belief, but without something in writing the doctors won’t prescribe a double portion to make up the difference.
I did that same search on Google and came up with lots of hits discussing how biased search engines are. Well DUH! Any one who thought otherwise is beyond naive. I just wonder what Mr. Goodwyn thinks is the bias (although I can guess).
Republican Sen. Mike Rounds just admitted the 2020 election wasn’t rigged
On Sunday, South Dakota Republican Sen. Mike Rounds was asked a blunt question by ABC’s George Stephanopoulos: “What do you say to all those Republicans, all those veterans who believe the election was stolen, who have bought the falsehoods coming from former President Trump?”
“We looked as a part of our due diligence, we looked at over 60 different accusations made in multiple states.
“While there were some irregularities, there were none of the irregularities which would have risen to the point where they would have changed the vote outcome in a single state.
“The election was fair, as fair as we have seen. We simply did not win the election, as Republicans, for the presidency. And moving forward — and that’s the way we want to look at this — moving forward, we have to refocus once again on what it’s going to take to win the presidency.
“And if we simply look back and tell our people don’t vote because there’s cheating going on, then we’re going to put ourselves in a huge disadvantage. So, moving forward, let’s focus on what it takes to win those elections. We can do that. But we have to let people know that they can — they can believe and they can have confidence that those elections are fair.”
This is, of course, all perfectly accurate. There is simply no evidence of any sort of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election. Some states in which the vote between Joe Biden and Donald Trump was very close have recounted the vote multiple times, with no change in result. In Georgia, for example, the vote was recounted three times — including once by hand — and no significant irregularities or changes were found.
‘This has been a spiritual battle’: Mike Lindell tears into ‘evil’ Fox News at Christian revival event
MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell suggested over the weekend that Fox News has been infected by “evil” because the network will not back up his false claim that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from Donald Trump.
“That’s where we’re at, your Foxes of the world,” Lindell added. “The conservative media that just went silent. So all you’re hearing is this false narrative.”
I miss the early days of internet searches. You didn’t need to weed through so many forced results to find what you were looking for. OK, and far fewer obnoxious ads.
However, to single out Google from other search engines that have their biases is ridiculous.
Anyway, if you don’t like Google search, there are many other search engines to choose from.
Google tries to bring you results it thinks you want — which means that there is absolutely a bias that you see, but it’s your own bias — maybe not a bias towards what you want, but a bias towards what you are most likely to click on, whether because you agree or so you can rage over it. Facebook and Instagram do the same thing, and possibly to a greater degree. The bias is extremely real, but it’s a reflection of yourself.

Since I rarely search for opinion, or social issues, or politics, Google gives me what I want the first time.
