I’m guessing it’ll be hard to get a table Saturday too, since a lot of guys will think “it’s the weekend and I forgot to make a reservation for Friday anyway.” And
OMG! Friday the thirteenth falls on a Thursday this month!
I think Bigger than Stuttgart was right yesterday; some sort of friction has built up between Arlo and Janis. Too soon to tell, but that’s four strips in a row without actual fun.
My wife and I have been doing that since we got married 43 years ago. We both can’t stand waiting on a table to come open and as a former restaurant General Manager I hated Valentine’s Day. It may be a busy night but it was a pain getting tables to turn since no one wanted the night to end. You ended up with a bunch of very impatient people waiting to be seated.
good on you Arlo ! We went out yesterday using a gift card I found stuck in the bottom of a drawer and then went for a stroll through the antiques mall. and it was nice

When we realized that Valentines Day was a Friday night we checked and our Friday night Asian buffet restaurant had a sign of special menu, special price for same plus the place would be jammed. Husband likes to go to Lancaster, PA on Fridays and Tuesdays and go to a farmers market there (actually a merchandise market) and I suggested that since the weather looked to be good we go there for the day and have dinner at one of the several wonderful, inexpensive (compared to home) restaurants we go to. Most of the ones we go to now are part of different supermarkets – there is either a section of the building or a separate building on the property with a restaurant some are buffet only, others give the choice of menu or buffet. We were checking which ones were raising prices and which were not – when the report changed it would be 10F coming home which worried him.
So we went to the cafeteria at Ikea (our Sunday night restaurant) instead and then, reversing the two nights, went to the Asian buffet on Sunday night.
Romantic – we are sitting here at 3:48 am while I am on my laptop posting here watching a TV show that I like while we have prebed snack and not yelling that we have to go up to bed while I post – which we have to after I wash dishes.

If you go between 2 and 3 pm you miss the lunch crowd and the dinner crowd. You might still get the lunch prices.

Janis is right. Money should NOT be top of mind right now.

So what’s the situation here? A restaurant pre-opening? He said “dinner” and “tomorrow”.
(Up in the middle of the night b/c I’m sick, so I have an excuse for being dense.)

Janis will now talk for hours about some pointless dribble until blood begins to seep from Arlo’s eyes and ears

While I admire his economy, I’m with Janis; less bragging about it!

Maybe it’s just me but “dinner” at Burger King doesn’t exactly scream Romantic.

You know, that’s not a bad plan.

OK, I’ve seen the phrase “fixed menu” twice now in these comics. What, exactly, is a fixed menu?

My wife and I went out last night at 5:00 pm, and the restaurant was packed with pre-Valentine’s Day celebrators.

You can tell it’s a fancy restaurant – red and white wines in their proper glasses!

Glad to see they’re drinking their wine out of the proper glasses for both red and white.

when you are in love any day can be Valentine’s day.

Well it is Valentine’s Day Eve and cheap would be not going at all, but you had blow the mood by talking about it instead of declaring you love.

My wife and I usually do this. It is not the frugality so much as it is the lack of fighting the mass of humanity on the 14th.
