So typical. We’re conditioned to always give to the male. I remember a story I read many years ago about a young mother who was at a church dinner with her little boy about 4. They served chocolate cake with a marischino cherry on top and the little boy ate the cherry off his cake and asked his mom for hers because he loved them so much. She said “So do I so I’m going to eat it myself.” All the other ladies looked at her like she was evil. But she had every right to eat it herself. Would they have given her the stink eye if it had been a little girl? Most moms would’ve just given it to him but this is how male entitlement begins.
My mother was a strong woman but she always did take the chicken’s back. She claimed she liked the oysters there. That being said my brothers and I were raised to find what we could do to help her.
Wouldn’t a father in a similar situation face a similar dilemma? There is also the likelihood that the mother has greater access to maraschino cherries than the child does and it would be a kind gesture to give something to someone who has less access. There is no right or wrong in the situation except to place too much emphasis on the long term consequences of the action.
The woman is conditioned to defer to the male? My derriere! My wife does things for me, and I do things for her, as I said yesterday. This is because we love each other.
There is a sad story about a family in the old west. One winter, food was short just potatoes. The father gave the wife the “meat” of the potato and he ate the less desirable skins. Turns out all the vitamin C in the potato is in the skins and the wife died of scurvy. No good deed goes unpunished.
They had a son?? Oh, I forgot. Seems like they also have a grandchild, but I’ve forgotten her, too. They obviously have earning the title of ‘Really Poor Grandparents.’
The past few days I have read quite a few comments about male entitlement and conditioned behavior toward male entitlement. But depending on the two individuals in a relationship that can be applied either way.
If you _____ then we can x x x. Oh, so you just put a price on x x x. Do you realize what that makes you? “You’re so spoiled.” “You have it so good.” “Do you know why that is?” “Why aren’t you doing it this (my) way?” Lots of manipulation that can happen both ways.
I try to make it a point(since I usually cut the portions) to give Gayle the better cut, just because I’ve been catered to that way most of my life. Like AnJ, she never finishes that bigger better piece.
I am so glad my mom did not raise my sisters or me like that. We never felt we were inferior to our brothers or dad. I raised my daughters the same way, they would never dream they are less than men.
It goes both ways. I always made sure my wife had the best car and it was always maintained well. She didn’t like getting gas so I would fill it once a week. We have taken care of each other for over 40 years now.
Man, all these comments basically say the same thing Men: “Oh, I’ll tell you about women”Women: “men are only good for…”None of you people shouldn’t ever have been married, all of you got married to live a stereotypical lifestyle. If you don’t get along or have any kind of doubt, you have no business being married…

I vaugely remember a mention of Janis’s sister in a brief scene years ago. I think it was a flashback scenario. Anyone else remember that?

I always give my husband the larger item—he works at a factory job whereas I am a homemaker. He needs it more than I do.

So traditional at family gatherings in the ’60s, the ladies did the vast majority of the cooking, serving, and cleaning up.

Not ALL males are like that. Most are considerate to their wives. You are stereotyping here.

My mom used to cut up a chicken to fry for dinner, and she’d always take the back and the neck. And the liver.

You get the best pork chop because you give the best back rubs…
