Another tidbit from my reservoir of useless trivia: The line after âShot a man in Renoâ of course is brutal, ââŠjust to watch him dieâ but the cheer after that was not real. It was dubbed in during post production. Anyway interesting Forth Wall antics in the last panel.
If I am in Reno, Nevada, portions thereof are right on the California state line. I shoot from Reno, into California and kill a man standing there. I shot a man in Reno but the crime was in California.
Conversely, I shot a Man in Reno, but it was a federal crime [bank robbery, etc.] therefore Iâm doing my time in a federal penitentiary in California.
Maybe try to have some patience, Janice? We gotta work through this stuff! Now, âwhatâs love got to do with it â do with it â whatâs love, but a second hand emotionâŠâ
Johnny Cash never spent time in prison. He did a few days in jail for dumb stuff, but NEVER in a prison. Now Merle Haggard is another story. That guy spent time in prison for breaking into the back of a restaurantâŠwhile the restaurant was open and serving customers.
We were watching the scene in Die Hard 2 where Bruce Willis is trying to stop the bad guysâ plane from taking off. I said âthatâs a mighty long runwayâ and pointed out that the other planes wouldnât land in the opposite direction. My wife said âitâs only a movieâ.
Many here do not know that once in the Federal Prison system you can request a transfer to another Federal Prison to be closer to family for visitation.
I would have loved to hear Johnny do a cover of âI Fought The Law.â The original was sung by The Crickets, though the Bobby Fuller Fourâs cover made the song popular.
Well, Arlo, olâ JR didnât specify Reno NV; could have been Reno IL, Reno IN, Reno GA, Reno MN, Reno KS, Reno OH, Reno TX (Lamar County) or Reno TX (Parker County).
None of which would render your question moot, of course.
âJohnny Cash song leaves some with a burning questionâ from the Belleville News-Democrat, posted 12/30/17
âThe simple reply? âThatâs called poetic license,â Cash told [photographer Jim Marshall]. Like âSan Antone,â Reno simply fit the song better than, say, Lodi or Chico, even if it is in a neighboring state.â
I have long thought about that too (right from the first time I heard the song). Clearly the felony was committed in Nevada, but, as some suggest, maybe he did other crimes in California and was in the slammer for those instead.
Johnny Cash was the first celebrity I ever saw âliveâ. He was performing at an Air Force base in Ohio in â59 and we, from the childrenâs home, were invited.

He shot a man in Reno, but that was hardly his only crime. California caught him first.

I guess the hair coloring theme is over. Will we see Arlo or Janis with grey hair?

California gets its pick of famous criminals, consider Al Capone.

Wondered that myself. The song isnât autobiographical, so Johnny Cashâs actual jail time is immaterial.

And was he given a âRing of Fireâ because he was âA Boy Named Sueâ? âș

Not sure of the Prison Terms, but I do know he said âMy name is Sue! How do you do? Now you gonna die!â

I was just talking about this the other day. My theory: there were no well-known prisons near Reno, so perhaps Cash just picked Folsom.
KevinCarson about 1 year ago
How can he tell that a train passing through Folsom is headed for San Antonio? Does he get the timetable?
