As you can see by my post which uses my birth name, I frequently get my name misspelled. I use my birth name because I didn’t know to use a penname, and I really did not care who knew.
My wife gets a double wammy. Her first name is the English spelling which is less common than the French spelling and people will call her Ms. (my surname) even though she didn’t change her name when we married.
Fat sloughs off in heat dearie. [last words] Ohhh! You cursed HEAT! Look what you’ve done! I’m melting! Melting! Oh, what a world! What a world! Who would have thought a good little SUN like you could destroy my beautiful wickedness! Ohhh! Look out! Look out! I’m going! Ohhhh – Ohhhhhhhhhh! I’m melting! Melting!
I’m male and have a unisex name and was listed with the females in the third grade. Had to go to the principal’s office to find out who my teacher was. In my eighth year, had a female classmate with the same name. Had everyone, including the teacher, call me by my surname.
i’m convinced that a long-time buddy goes out of his way to find new and creative spellings for my unusual surname. you’d think gopher’d be easy, but no… ☺
My father named me after his mother, and I mean her entire name. I sometimes wonder if she had the same issues I had when it comes to people unable to pronounce or spell my name.
My Gram always pronounced my name wrong, and spelled it the way she prounced it, missed one vowel. She is the only person to ever do that and they only one I ever let get away with it.
My last name isn’t uncommon, but its spelling is. It’s missing a couple of letters that people usually think should be in there, and that results in both misspellings and mispronunciations — not to mention misdirected emails.
Years ago I was working with a temp who was new to our office. I’d just met him that night, and without asking he correctly spelled my name on some paperwork. When I expressed my surprise, he said, “Oh, I know someone with that name.”
“Has to be one of my relatives,” I said. Turned out he knew my sister.

Welcome To The Service Industry
I am enjoying a five-minute alleyway cigarette break with a coworker when the new girl steps out looking all flustered.
Me: “Everything okay?”
New Girl: “A customer just exploded at me because I didn’t tell them the risotto has rice. They had to send it back because they can’t eat rice!”
Coworker: “Oh, that’s almost as bad as the guy who said to me, ‘I ordered the prosciutto pizza, but this is pork!’”
New Girl: “How long ago was that?”
Coworker: “Lunchtime.”
New Girl: “…”
Me: “Welcome to the service industry!”
(Only one I’m posting today. Sorry)

Same here for both first and last name. And don’t get me started on mispronunciations.

My last name is consonant soup. Hard to pronounce and even harder to spell!
