    This got me googling about whether clams can eject pearls. That led me to freshwater pearl farming, in which 24-32 fragments of “mantle tissue” are implanted in each clam, with each fragment becoming a pearl inside the bivalve in the course of 2-7 years. We know what must happen next. Did PETA ever warn us about that?
