Correct! Rook is also named Castle; Knight is also named Paladin. The person doing the comic strip likely did not know the difference. Mistaking a rock for a rook still is not a funny joke.

Pretty sure by FIDE rules, you are not allowed to drop a rock on your opponent. Otherwise, you both forfeit.

I love this comic strip regardless. It is a comic strip. If you want not funny, read Mary Worth or Rex Morgan, M.D. or Judge Parker. No matter who draws it, or puts in the dialogue, the times make it hard to draw like in the old days, and not everybody isn’t going to get the gags in every comic strip every day. So enjoy it before Congress takes away comic strips from us!
