That reminds me of an exchange that my aunt and uncle had a few years ago. I was telling them that I had suffered a hearing loss and was going to have to get hearing aids. My aunt told me that my uncle was having trouble hearing, too, because he would often not hear things that she said to him. My uncle turned to my aunt and said, ‘You just THINK I don’t hear you!" with a mischievous grin and twinkle in his eye. Did I mention that he’s my favorite uncle? ;-)

I’ve never understood why people get so upset about their elderly parents finding love again. Of course, MY parents have been married for 66 years, and each of my grandmothers had been married 3-4 times EACH…so my viewpoint is a little skewed.

I had a buddy in college who was a philosophy major. He was also heavily into recreational drugs. One night after doing some ludes and alcohol he turns to me and says, “I think therefore I am, I think therefore I am…what BS. Sometimes I don’t think; but I know I am.”

Immanuel Kant was at a bar. Bartender said ‘Hey Immanuel, you want another one?’ Kant replied ‘No, I don’t think…’

My grandmother, when irritated at me for not listening to her, would say: " Your like Billy Weir. What ye don’t want, ye don’t hear ! "

    .

I found out the Billy Weir was a character in Portadown,NI at the time my grandmother was growing up, who pretended to be deaf.

My 2nd husband’s ‘adult’ kids had a lot to do with our marriage breaking up so quickly. I’m happy to be single now – much less hassle.

That was a problem in my family. My paternal grandmother died of cancer, which my grandfather naturally took hard. However, he soon started dating again, and expressed an interest in getting married. I myself was glad to have this lady as my step-grandmother. However, the only one of his kids to endorse the marriage was his eldest son (a.k.a. my father). My aunts saw a threat to their inheritance, showing the same fear and panic AARP does when it is mentioned that the future of social security and medicare is questionable.

Lynn’s Notes:I have a friend who was forced to break away from a man she dearly loved because his children were afraid she would get some of their inheritance. It was the saddest thing.

    I forgot about greed.

Men who allow their adult kids to beat up on the woman in their lives do not deserve that good woman as a partner. Period.

Prenuptiual agreements. For those who marry, but have their fingers crossed when they give their vows.

Mariage is for the begetting of children and the consolidation of wealth. People that are past that have no reason that they “have” to marry.
