Our cats always liked to wind themselves into tight little balls of fur. They do tend to move towards awkward parts of the bed or couch, but they would be easily moved.
My dog, Simba was a 100 lb German Shepard. He would always sleep at the foot of the bed, or on my side. The other dogs and occasionally a cat or two would sleep with our daughters. But they seemed to always end up in the Master Bedroom and wake up there…in fact so did the kids many times.
I had severe back issues for many years, and slept with a couple of braces. Both child, and beasts seemed to know to stay clear of that. I recently had my final surgery on my back, and when I awoke after the first day without all the hardware, Salem our black cat was sleeping in the small of my back, Bella, the white chiuahau mix was nuzzled up against my upper back. Like they were showing me the love I missed while I was harnessed up.
I love the BCN community! There’s no spamming, or toxicity, or insults, or fake “wars”. It’s just a group of good people having a laugh, and comforting people when necessary. I really appreciate it. It’s like my internet happy place.
I am a number person (along with a cat person) and have always like to track statistics. I have been writing down the number of BCN followers daily for a while now. I haven’t quite got to the point of putting the numbers in a spreadsheet and graphing it, but I do jot the number down each day to see how the followers are growing. It is a pretty rare day when the number doesn’t go up a bit. Today it was up 43 from what I wrote down yesterday. Maybe it was a combo of people who read Georgia’s post here and on Facebook who weren’t already following clicking follow to help her out and maybe some new GoComics readers who went looking for BCN and other favorites when they disappeared from their newspapers yesterday. If anyone reading this is new to GoComics, welcome.
Important request from Georgia yesterday. I’m reposting it here in case anyone missed it: "Hello, everyone! It’s been a hard year, and it’s tough times right now for many industries, comics included. We’re coming out of about 6-7 newspapers in the next few months. I don’t know which ones (sorry!), it has a lot to do with companies that own large groups of newspapers reorganizing their comics. We’re a smaller comic, and get lost a bit in the shuffle sometimes when something like that happens. These companies usually keep the bigger name comics together, and we’re just not there yet. (Hopefully one day! The book sales help, newspapers that keep us help, your word of mouth helps; it all helps!)
If you are enjoying ‘Breaking Cat News’ in your newspaper, please let your local paper know. And likewise, if you’d like to see BCN in your newspaper, please ask them to add us! Often an editor might not know folks are enjoying a comic or looking for a new comic to be added, until their readers let them know. If editors hear our name and know people love it, they may add us to your paper!
I’ve always shared glimpses behind the scenes of what goes into creating a newspaper comic… This is not one of the more fun peeks, but this is part of it too. Everything has its ups and downs, even the funny pages. If your newspaper does drop BCN, if may help if you ask them to reconsider and bring us back. (Readers can sometimes get a newspaper to keep a comic, especially if it’s one of the newspapers that still has some say locally. If your newspaper has this decision made for them, reaching out to the company that owns them could help too!) And we will still be online at GoComics, too, of course!
We will still be in many newspapers! But 6-7 at once is a big enough chunk that I wanted to give a heads up to readers and prepare folks. This is a small setback—but I’m still so happy to be in the many newspapers we are in and optimistic for BCN’s newspaper count to keep growing."
Hey Georgia (or Ms. Dunn, whichever is fine :) )! I have a question about syndication. A person told me to ask you about web comics. They said that you had a website that GoComics found on its own and eventually offered you a spot. Right now, I have a hand drawn comic called YellowVille. I want to get it syndicated. DO you have any tips on this?
Meanwhile, back in newspaper land, an update from Georgia:

I had a compact cat who could stretch to three-foot length in a warm bed. Somehow, no matter where he started, he always wound up occupying the exact center of the bed. Now that I have a king-size bed, my current cats prefer to sleep in another room. Go figure.
Well, just had a rare winter blackout here. And March certainly came roaring in, high winds dropping the wind chill well below freezing. Interestingly I’m sitting in my house, the power on and the heat finally up, in the middle of a blackout. At least according to the power company we’re not due to get the power back until about ten tomorrow night. Power went out about 9:40 last night and survived the night and we got it back around 5:50 this evening. Can’t wait for the power company to make an announcement tomorrow night that the power’s finally been restored. Just afraid might loose it again just before they announce they’ve restored it..

I don’t see the new very fuzzy blanket, so I’m guessing Puck is not one of those crowding the bed. Wherever he is he does have charts!

I’ve found that this holds true for tiny dogs as well. My tiny chihuahuas can easily consume half the real estate on my bed.

Finally a chart that explains the phenomenon of little ones taking up lots of space. When asleep they all basically become the Vitruvian Man.

I’m always amazed at how much room an 11 pound cat can take up on a bed.

Mr. Sandman
Mew, mew, mew, mew, mew, mew, mew, mew,
Mew, mew, mew, mew, mew, mew!
Mew, mew, mew, mew, mew, mew, mew, mew,
Mew, mew, mew, mew, mew, purr!
…….
Mr. Sandcat, bring me a dream
Give me the smallest box that I’ve ever seen,
Make it of cardboard, to do a cute pose in,
And make it so small that I can’t get my toes in!
…….
Mr. Sandcat, I’m still awake!
The cute girl’s thrashing is more than I can take!
Please no more thrashing around!
Let me curl up and sleep safe and sound!

It’s not safe to sleep with a baby in the same bed as the parents as you could roll over and crush them. Don’t try this at home folks…

Like cats should talk. When a cat goes toe-far, they take up a lot of real estate on the bed.
