Coming Soon 👀 At the beginning of April, you’ll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
Why bother, Pam? Only a lawyer can understand it, and they are all take-it-or-leave it. If you don’t like even one paragraph, one sentence, one adjective clause, or even one comma, your only option is to not download the program.
Cue the old Oscar Meyer Wiener jingle. “Oh, I wish I were an Oscar Meyer Wiener. That is what I’d truly like to be. Cuz if I were an Oscar Meyer Wiener, everyone would be in love with me.”
It does not matter. Software License Agreements are written in Technological Legalese, encoded with subliminal deception language that no human can decipher. Do or Do not, you are still Doomed.
There was one company who put into their fine print a clause about selling your soul to the devil. Just as a joke, you know. I think.
It seems to me that we could pass laws standardizing the agreements for software, making them both uniform and tacit. The whole charade could be done away with. I mean, you don’t sign a unique 10-page agreement with the new electric utility when you move, do you? But nooooo, that would give Congress something to do that would actually be beneficial to citizens.
