Recognizing parents as real people may as hard as realizing children are too.

Back in 1978, I ran into my old kindergarten teacher downtown.

Even weirder, coming across an old teacher, when you’re in a new school.

I had this happen to me twice, first time, the teacher was a student teacher when I was in year 5. he ended up being my year 7 teacher, before I left that horrible school. How horrible was that school? I was sent to boarding school to find some relief from the endless, violent bullying that was pushing me to the point I would have stabbed someone (the relief from bullying was short-lived). The teacher, he ‘had a shooting accident’, aka, suicided.

The school that I went to from Year 5 (student teacher above), when I entered year 6, the teacher then, ended up as my teacher when I was in year 12, my senior year. He was one of the housemasters at the boarding school as well. I recognised him, he didn’t recognise me. I later came across him again, in another town, 8 years later…

Let’s not limit it to teachers. (Although I may be particularly bad about dealing with it.) There are a lot of people who I may know from X, but when I see them at totally different location, Y, I find myself going, “Man, (s)he looks familiar… Who is that?”

I somehow didn’t imagine that Pam would be the type to homeschool her children. I’m guessing that the R U Sirius may not have enough children on board to justify dedicated classrooms.

I wonder if Pam is her real name, and whether she’s named after the cooking spray or the dishwashing liquid (Pam-olive). (Actually, Pam Olive might be her first and middle names, with her last name being Oyl.)

By coincidence, I read Big Nate right before coming here.

I use to think homeschooling was strange and public school was normal. Today however….

At my school, we didn’t need to take breaks to fight space octopuses.

It’s really weird to run into your teacher in public when she’s a nun. Very disorientating.
