Scrabble isn’t helping Calvin with his reading skills.

I am somehow reminded of a “Taz Mania” episode where the Warner Brothers’ Tasmanian devil places Scrabble with his hotel employer’s mum and he comes up with his trademark sound effect… which is so in the dictionary (much to the lady’s chagrin).

In our house, we have agreed that any proposed rules are legal if everyone agrees on them. With normal people this works well. With some people, however, it means that scrabble can mutate into Calvin-ball with very little notice.

A political speech writer should insert that word into the middle of a speech.

Why Scrabble was more fun than Words With Friends (WWF’s programming won’t let you play made-up words).

Some people seem to cheat their way through life. Others know they are cheating but let them. I wonder if letting a cheater cheat allows us to feel better about cheating ourselves?

For a fun twist on Scrabble, we used to play phonetic Scrabble, where anything that sounds like a word is legal. Some examples of valid words in phonetic Scrabble would be PHARR (FAR) JYANT (GIANT), etc.

Its a Polish surname. Its pronounced the same as Hobbes’ word with all the X’s and J’s.

How do you get a score of 957 when using a Double Word Score box?

First of all, Scrabble only has one X and one J.

Second, spelling “Zqfmgb” on a double word score does not get you that many points.

You’d think, with his preternatural (for his age) vocabulary, Calvin would be a world-class scrabbler.

Oddness aside, the highest conceivable score for a Scrabble word falls far short of 957.

My favorite scrabble words: Zoquo from the Greek, meaning “water sports” and Ushnuu also from the Greek meaning “to towel off.”After I zoquo, I like to ushnuu.

That word qualifies at this age since most of the catchas are similar. The 12 letter words with Xs and Js are nicely played move by Hobbes.
