Just think, there are easily more stars in the Universe than there are grains of sand on all of the beaches in the world. For real…

Enough of imponderables. Let’s get back to the concrete.

Is Calvin channeling Carl Sagan?

Now, I wonder what’s on TV.

Either Calvin can read his watch by starlight, in which case his night vision is better than that of Hobbes….OR….his watch uses radioactive paint, in which case he may want to sue his parents in 50 years.

After blowing his own mind, Calvin decides he needs to junk it up again.

Scale matters.

A right-wristed watch wearer. It just figures.

Cosmos, maybe, but I doubt they’ll watch it.

Cosmic wonder only goes so far when you’re six.

Do you believe there are other forms of life in the vast universe who are far more intelligent than we are? I do, and I believe the reason the haven’t invaded Earth is because they know it isn’t worth the effort.

A microcosm of greed and vanity attempting to spread itself to the greater macrocosm – and succeeding at a rapidly expanding rate.

And yet he fails his classes.

More subatomic particles.

My favorite panel in the entire strip has Calvin, after yet another one of his usual disappointments/disillusionments, spending the entire night ranting & railing against the entire universe.

What’s on TV? Spaceman Spiff, of course.

Ahh yes, the days before On-Demand, Streaming, Youtube, and other immediate gratification of the desire for mindless entertainment.

Yes, young boys and girls, one used to have to know when the show you wanted to watch was actually being broadcast on TV. And there were only a few channels of broadcast TV there to watch.

At least Calvin lives in the days after the invention of the VCR, so he could watch tapes when/if he can convince someone to rent him a movie (not likely if you are a minor and like B-movies).

Star Trek reruns.

At least there weren’t any stupid reality shows then.

For a 6 year old, Calvin has an impressive vocabulary.

Side note: I just LOVE looking up at the stars. But then, who doesn’t?

Yup, the vastness of space and our place in it makes my brain hurt even trying to think about it. I’d usually just want to watch cartoons.
