Yes, young boys and girls, one used to have to know when the show you wanted to watch was actually being broadcast on TV. And there were only a few channels of broadcast TV there to watch.
At least Calvin lives in the days after the invention of the VCR, so he could watch tapes when/if he can convince someone to rent him a movie (not likely if you are a minor and like B-movies).
