Hmmm… that seemed a bit too easy, where’s the drawn out hostage taking and murder of the innocents Gould was known for? Hopefully this is just part 1 of the story, ending
Nice shot, Tracy! Tagged Measles in the right forearm, so it appears. He won’t be doing much shooting from that hand for a while. And if Gertie takes a good swing with her chopper, Measles may lose his head!
Is panel #3 something of a minor miracle w/ Tribune censors? Someone firing gun & someone being hit from bullet by said gun…ALL IN THE SAME PANEL! Whooee! When was the last time this happened? Over 30 years ago w/ the Art Dekko storyline?
When Tracy said, “Drop it!”, Measles could have shot Gravel Gertie. I say Tracy should shoot Measles first (in the arm). Measles is already brandishing the weapon and threatening murder.
Measles shoulda done his homework. If he had, he would know that Gravel Gertie and Dick Tracy are friends. In a similar thought, if you want real trouble with Superman, all you have to do is threaten mischief against Lois Lane. Superman will show up and give you a hard time before you get your thoughts voiced.
Gertie a moment from breathing her last, Measles had taken sharp aim. When who should appear in the door to strike fear, but Tracy of crime fighting fame. When Macy says “drop it,” it’s best to comply. Many have learned the hard way. Measles eats lead, could have had grits instead, there will be no revenge today. Tracy disarms the punk, Measles: a perfect shot to the forearm. If the junkie won’t accept defeat, Gertie’s axe will do grave harm.
Ho-Hum ?, -and ’ repetative ’ Hum -Drum . . .Another ’ Dig ‘, why - just for Fun ?TMS sets the date . . .Why can’t you relate ?You call that simple ’ comment ’ ?Why, every time you open your mouth - it comes out like ’ dissent ’ ?
I have noticed the same story-telling pattern, and so have many others on this site. We have been informed that the fault lies with the Tribune Media Service, which has impose a somewhat artificial time constraint on the stories. Many of us would like to see the build -up remain, but then have a longer story, with clues to track down and a chase, like in Gould’s days. We have expressed ourselves here, and some have even e-mailed TMS, but so far, they don’t seem to “get it”. I feel that the writer and artist could give us a great Dick Tracy with more of the classic elements if TMS would get out of their way! Since Mike Curtis reads these comments, I’m hoping that he will pass these ideas on to the “powers that be” at TMS.
I agree. This happened with the Mr Crime story. And then with the “light speed” capture of Phishphace. I expected some struggle between Gertie and Measles, but that seems very unlikely now. This seems to be ending really fast, and brings to my mind the way Honeymoon spotted Phishphace, only that she never had a picture of him, so basically she relied on him having a fish-like face, I assume. Too much build-up, but just a strip or two to wrap everything up.
ok gertie, measles has been disarmed DONT swing that axe and take off the other hand (or the wounded one)… PLEASE!!! i like measles too much for him to be one handed. as it is he’s gonna need surgery, therapy and pain killers to take care of the gunshot wound from tracy.
Da Man…. Whom do you know that wanted Mike & Joe’s job before they got it? And who do you know that STILL wants it? Hint: he’s got a pipsqueak cartoon that never got off the launching pad. Hint #2: he defends you religously.

When Tracy says, “Drop it!” you best do it! Wonder how many headache patches he’ll be able to come by in prison?

Ironic isn’t it? Measles has an axe to grind and Gertie is holding the axe.

When Tracy said “Drop it” notice the pressure on the trigger. Good shooting, Tracy. Aim then warn.

Which Colorist’s work do you like better? The one from GoComics or this one from Comics Kingdom.

In the arm? Bad drills Tracy, always go for the centre of the largest visible mass.

From the diameter of the barrel in Measel’s gun, it looks like he’s brandishing a BB gun. That barrel is to small for even a .22.

What a memory Measles has! After all these years, he still remembers Tracy’s voice. :)

A time limit? I remember a Lil Abner story-line that went on for over a year, with various sub plots. And Annie never did have a finish.

Compared to a year ago, the story lines are now moving along like a dog fight!

Dang. This strip is SO MUCH BETTER these days. The waning years of Locher’s tenure just seem like a bad dream.
I wonder if they’ll bring back the giant crimefighting robot…
