OK, so where’s the part where Michael is expected to earn money to pay for the replacement as part of teaching him accountability for breaking the first one? Simply replacing it without requiring something from Michael is exactly what John SHOULDN’T have done!

Baloney, Michael suffered enough angst.I for one am glad to see the Dad protrayed as nice for once.If John was so bad, why did they get married?
Thank you for rising above the fray and giving us a holiday story to emphasize the love and compassion in a father’s understanding of his child’s desire to express his love for his mother.
Does anyone know the old tale where a miracle takes place and person in need person in need ends up with what they need to his/her surprise? I believe the original story is told about a female who becomes a saint. I wish I could recall that tale as this reminds me of it.
If this was just about Michael and the angel (its intrinsic value), then holding Michael responsible would be right. But there is more involved here. Michael wouldn’t simply be disappointed from being deprived of the angel, but by disappointing his mother on a very special occasion. Teach him a lesson? Yes. And leave him with a bitter memory of Christmas that would last a lifetime. Way too much expense for a glass angel.

Every now and then, John gets it right. It makes up for all the times he puts his foot in his mouth.

There’s a time for discipline and a time for grace. A wise parent is able to discern which is needed.
