THANK YOU TARRY. I am so confused. The phone call from an old friend? And suddenly Honeymoon is going off to see what I can only guess is her mother? We missed the gap in between
I’m wondering if the events in Newtown CT may have prompted a quick story change from what was sure to be a violent confrontation.
My wife, son and I were frequent vistors to Newtown. It’s a beautiful town and the kind of place where you’d expect Jimmy Stewart to run the bank and Andy Griffith be sheriff. It’s still difficult to imagine the horrible events of last Friday to have actually happened there. Our thoughts and prayers are always with the people of Newtown.
That was my thought exactly, and I’m glad someone else agrees. Honeymoon would not be referred to that way by Sam, I’m sure……and I’m betting the “after Christmas” delay was drawn up just now….as well as a possible alternate ending to the story. Only Mike and Joe know for sure, but if that’s the case, I whole-heartedly support it!
Ahhhhh……gunmen from outside…answering a question I had long wondered about. I mean, Broadway complains to Dick about :“cosrtumed characters”, and then the local two get killed or something….kinda would make him suspect numero uno, wouldn’t it? Actually, Tracy’s no dummy, it still would. Hey, Mike, if you are re-writing the story, here’s your chance to have Belle turn good like Mole and Littlefoot, so we can see more of her…..I think you and Joe’s version of her rocks, and has created a crowd favorite here, lol!
Could the phone call from “an old friend” that Sam was referring to, be from the Governor of the Moon? Perhaps he has staged a meeting with The Tracy’s to explain how his daughter Moon Maid was saved from the car explosion. ??
Honeymoon wears her big girl pants, setting out under full moonlightTo track down the mysterious Maid, who wields a hammer with fierce might. On her mission to find the truth, Tracy and Sam give aidAssuming they seek an imposter, not the su generis mother, Moon Maid. After long and lonely years, mother and daughter reunited?Honeymoon shocked and stunned to learn ‘twas not an imposter sighted?Junior cannot face the chance he was wrong these many yearsNever questioning assumptions, through the sorrow, grief and tears.Yet nothing is impossible, under the starry, moonlit skyOne not native to this Earth may not so easily die.
I figure Tracy and Honeymoon are going to check, somehow and somewhere, whether Mysta is really dead. Maybe to the City Morgue after an exhumation of remains? —This is a “meanwhile…” turn, so it doesn’t necessarily imply a sudden swerve in the plot.
This strip is even more poignant due to the CT shooting. Sparkle, and Jr. Tracy, whom I grew up with. Joe, and Honeymoon. I can only see them involved in such a tragity. It’s helpful to know that this is a comic strip, and such would never actually happen. Thank Gould, and the new team for giving us a bit of escapism.
This is, in a way, another Gould tradition. He didn’t always do it, but there were times when he would take a break from the main story around Christmas. Example: After the Chameleon and Pouch swiped Diamonds from the scene of a crime, and Tracy started to get reports of other jewel thefts around the city, Gould started a sub-plot about Groovy Grove being Tinky’s father, and Tinky getting an operation to restore her eye sight. It ran for 23 days, with no mention of the jewel thiefs, and ran right into Christmas, 1970. Then, the next day, we saw the two crooks wishing each other a Happy New Year, and the Chameleon story continued.
The only thing is, Gould’s transitions were smoother. We were several days into the sub-plot before it became obvious it was not part of the main story. This new thing with Mike and Joe seemed to jump out of nowhere. That’s probably due to the time constraints placed upon them in today’s comic strip world.
What do you all suppose the trouble is at GoComics? I sent them an e-mail, and got a response that my request had been noted, but no real answer as to why the Sunday page is missing yet again.
Those who dislike the Moon era in DT often use the argument that it is not appropriate now because we KNOW that there are no people on the moon.
We also KNOW from the Chet Gould strips that Moon technology is far advanced to Earth technology. The only reason they did not have space travel when first encountered by Diet Smith is that in order to do so would require certain elements found on Earth but not on the Moon.
We KNOW as well from the Fletcher/Collins Death of Moon Maid arc that the Moon people are isolationists and want nothing to do with other nations or planets.
We KNOW from earlier Staton/Curtis strips that the Space Coupe is still operational (even though it has been taken “out of service” by the police and the government). Perhaps a Space Coupe kept by the Moon Governor is also still in operation.
Would it be too hard to believe (based upon Tracy canon) that the Moon people have developed some sort of stealth technology which hides Moon Valley from view and that even though the moon appears lifeless, there is an isolationist civilization living there who don’t want to be seen or found.
What I love about today’s strip is the overall trust each member of the family has in each other. It’s a shame all families cannot be as “functional” as this scene.
I love how they are revisiting the moon period. What a gas. I never realized how much fun it was until I saw Moon Maid again. Forgot what a babe she is. And now Honeymoon’s in the middle of it? Makes it even more fun.
PLEASE TEAM TRACY! Let it be our beloved MOON MAID and not an imposter! I think it is clear that she has a large fan base, and would enhance the strip! Junior can stay married to Sparkle, they belong together now. Although Moon Maid was his wife, he had no choice but to move forward. I believe Moon Maid would accept that, and just be happy to be reunited with her daughter. Moon Maid can become part of the Tracy Team on the police force.
@ Tommygunner – I do not belong to the Tracy Message Board @ yahoo, so clearly, I am missing out on all these “spoilers” that the fans here speak of. You have heard her story is to kick in during the springtime? OMG! Awesome. I can’t wait. When I get home from work tonight at Eleven P.M. I will be waiting for Tues.’ strip to appear. I am on pins and needles here TEAM TRACY!
this makes no sense to me, even with tarry’s posting of yesterdays strip. it “jumped” too quickly without any explanation whatsoever.. i am totally lost mow lol
I’d still prefer not to bring back the Moon people, I’m still hoping that this Moon Maid is some deluded MM fan & not the real thing… there is of course, another answer; perhaps this MM is a CLONE! Perhaps Diet Smith was able to acquire a small amount of MM DNA and “Grow” a new MM in a lab somewhere, and it just took a few years to get her to adulthood (since Honeymoon has only aged about 7 years or so, the cloning must have been accelerated, somehow) and to teach her about the life of the original MM.
Good score on the Bonnie pic, Mikey !^^It makes sense that he would base his gun Moll on Bonnie Parker, and I would suppose that he used the earlier pics of her because they would have been easier to find than contemporary pics of her. In 1933,police raiding one of their old hideouts, found several pics they took for themselves fooling around a stolen 1932 Ford with guns like children playing cops and robbers, which were released to newspapers and Police depts. all over the USA. Now everyone knew what Bonnie looked like at that time.
Thanks, Tommygunner and Gweedo! If this is indeed a visit from the Governor of the Moon, my guess is that he has issues of vital importance to discuss with Tracy (maybe things he should have shared years ago). He was always a stubborn, willful man, with no patience for the violence and crime of so many Earthlings. If he has come to discuss…well, you know who she is… then he might as well take time to visit his fabulous granddaughter. The fruit didn’t fall far from the tree.
Wow!! My memory must be getting worse than I thought…I could swear that the decision about not holding people in mental institutions against their will came from the Supreme Court sometime in the late 60’s or early 70’s…oh well…

I’m thinking that the “old friend” is Diet Smith. He would be a natural to be the intermediary between the Moon and Earth people.

Mike said this yesterday about the change in plot lines…
“So we’ll let Broadway and Belle enjoy the holiday.
We started today a 2 week story, and next Sunday’s strip is a special Christmaspresent from Joe and I to many Tract fans."
