Joanie: But won't everyone be watching the senator? Who'll notice me? Coworker: You'd be surprised. Why don't I phone you on your cell once it starts? Then I can coach you through it. You can hide the earbud in your hair. No one will know. Joanie: But doesn't that involve my trusting you? Coworker: Ideally. It's your call.

As a senior staff member in Elizabeth Warren’s office, Joanie should fire the poisonous little twit. I suspect she was planted there by a bitter Scott Brown, resentful that he lost the election.

Just say no, Joanie.

Cultivate your enemies. Your friends will eventually let you down, but you can always depend on the actions of your enemies.

The little snit, with her arms crossed, is projecting a defensive posture in body language. Why would that be?

When you view a “Congressional Hearing” there are lots of people sitting behind the main players … doing NOTHING! Are WE paying the salaries for these dummy-props?

One way, guaranteed, to to make the late night talk shows or news opinions shows, is to fall asleep, while sitting behind one of those stentorian Senators. If their bombast can’t keep you awake, imagine what it does for the rest of us ?

I have no idea why she’s trusted her so far. She’s there to sabotage her so she’s kicked out of the office. I guess failure runs in the family, though, so that’s ok, and consistent.

What epithet for this loathsome assistant would be more appropriate and/or less offensive to you? I’m asking sincerely.

This girl has got to go. She is SO stuck in the 80’s.

@joesilver
I agree with Kaffecup. It’s less heavy-handed, less vulgar. Most of us here have broad enough vocabularies to be able to come up with better, more descriptive, less offensive words. One dictionary definition of “twit” is " a foolishly annoying person." This young lady suffers from “all-knowing youth syndrome,” in which the old concept of respecting one’s elders is turned on its head in favor of the new concept that only the young are in possession of wisdom.

I think this girl honestly believes she knows things Joanie doesn’t know and that she can save Joanie from herself.

@Night-Gaunt
Actually, reedcomicks didn’t use the b-word himself; he was quoting Bret Maverick.
joesilver over 11 years ago
@annieb1012I agree that in many instances it’s better to use a more civilized alternative to a coarse word. However, Night-Gaunt49 seems to be confusing the use of what I’d consider to be an entirely appropriate epithet in this case, applied to a specific (fictional) individual, with, for example, the way some rappers use the word in a more general sense as a synonym for “woman.” I’d advise her (I’m assuming, confidently, that Night-Gaunt49 is a “her”) to pick and choose her battles.

I get the feeling some conservatives still don’t get Stephen Colbert’s act. He plays a character on TV. He uses irony while in said character… when he plays himself, he campaigns for his sister in the South Carolina Senate race. Hello? is someone in there?

Oh the irony…
“I wonder how many women would like to use a shot gun on every male, and some females who use that B word?…"
I wonder how many women use veiled threats of violence in their comments on Gocomics.com? Besides you, that is…
annieb1012 over 11 years ago
@Night-Gaunt49 “Don’t talk down to me.”*I’m dismayed that you think I’m talking down to you, when I thought I was talking straight across to you, as friend to friend. You took two people to task for using the B-word, but not the one whose comment was quoted. And, by the way, I appreciate your point that quoting someone else’s choice of words can indicate agreement with it.*I also appreciate your rising to the defense of women, as I indicated in an earlier post today thanking you (three times!) for your unequivocal disapproval of the use of offensive terms for women.

I have been watching this whole conversation regarding my initial comment with a jaundiced eye. I resent being taken to task for using a term ( however politely couched ) that was definitely apropos, when referring to a cartoon character’s behavior. Yesterday, I called her a twit, because that was the way she was being portrayed.Today she was acting bitchy ! It was not an attack on women, so get over it ! Men can act bitchy too. Like it or not, politically incorrect or not, when people ( male or female ) act in a specifically catty or hurtful way they are, in common parlance, being a bitch ! Although,historically, it is a term for a female animal, modern vernacular has morphed the expression into a totally non-sexual, non-gender specific idiomatic descriptive word.
