Phil wants to become a big brother to Sluggo! He asks uncle Seymour's permission- Sounds like you already are! Consider your self part of the Angel network for our Sluggo! I'll explain everything as soon as I get to town! Les'll be there, too! 10-4! Rubber duck! You and Les got a convoy?! Ha! Ha! Ha! Sorry! Man! I hate civilians talkin' to me in trucker-speak from that dang ol song! Yeah- remind me to whoop ya when I see ya for that one!

What song is Seymore referring to?
And can somebody please post a link to a guide on trucker slang?(I’m a writer. I might like to know about it, since an independent filmmaker has asked me to work on a script about trucking for him.)

Is cb radio still used given the prevalence of the cell phone?

Convoy is a great song. I have it on my iPod. I just listen to it using a different setting. (Haulers in outer space.)

Every time I see a cb radio my first thought goes to “Smokey and the Bandit”. I love that movie.

Elvis won more music awards for his Gospel music (not “Negro” spirituals) than he ever won for his rock music.

Have these uncles ever been mentioned before?
“Big Brothers” are great! Or he could marry Fritzi and they could adopt Sluggo.

Sorry to disagree with you WytZox1, but neither “Convoy” nor Kookie were among the 1st “Rap” songs. The style goes all the way bacck to the 1920’s & 30’s.Hillbilly/Folkie artists like Woody Guthrie used to do something called “the talkin’ blues”. It was spoken lyrics set to a musical background. Many artists in many different genres continued this style into the 50’s & 60’s. Wink Martindale (yes the 60’s game show host) had a top 40 hit with a talk-song called “Deck of Cards” which was a remake of an earlier song about a wartime G.I. who was reprimanded for using a deck of playing cards during a church service. He goes on to explain that he uses the cards as a substitute for his lost bible. Even Lorne Greene (yes, Ben Cartright of Bonanza fame) had a talk/song in the early 60’s called “Ringo” about an old west outlaw(not the Beatle).Rap has been around for a very long time in one form or another.

CB’s are still a main source of communication for Truck Drivers. I used to have one my car for years. My dad (a trucker) insisted and believe me it came in handy many times. When I was in college I was known as “lady Buick” by the regular truckers on my route to and from school :D haven’t had a CB in my car for a few years though but I miss it especially when stuck in traffic.
Convoy is still one of the best trucker songs though!

Wait till More and Les see how Fritzi turned out. Phil may have a little competition.

I had a personal windfall back in the CB craze days. I was working commission sales in the electronic/tv/radio department of Montgomery Ward. I couldn’t sell those Cobras and Bearcats fast enough…and kept a stack of FCC license applications on hand.

Now you did it! You said the G-word. Sluggo is fine the way he is. Keep the gubment out of it! He’s not lacking for anything. His house, well, it’s getting better. Seems it doesn’t have a roof leak and he looks like eats well! He even goes to school. If the gubment steps in, he’ll be gone. In a foster home or worse. Seems like he has all the “family” he needs write now!

I’m glad to see it. Sluggo has been needing help for 70+ years.

@WytZox1‘Ham" radio is still alive and kicking. In fact many hams are utilizing both over the air and internet for communication. The, I guess digital version of this, is D-star. Uses a combination of computer and radio to converse with people in other states who are similarly set up. This uses the local frequencies as opposed to low-band radios. I’m not super conversant in this, but my other half uses it a lot to check into ’nets in Alabama.

Amateur radio and CB are two different FCC regulated services. Some are active on both services.CB operators are licensed to operate on 40 channels, 5 watts max – legally – and only have to apply for a license.Amateurs (hams) have to pass a written FCC test (CW- code no longer required) and allowed to operate on a number of bands and generally up to 1000 watts. Amateurs are allowed to build their own equipment, though store-bought are usually more practical.Tampering with a CB is not legal, though some hams have converted CBs to amateur bands (legal) but not legal to convert them back!
tuslog64 over 11 years ago
Lingo is different on the two services:CB adopted the 10- codes Amateurs use Q-codes, ie QTH is location, etc.(Sad to say that many of the worst CB violators have turned out to have Extra class amateur licenses! And that was in the days that it required a 20 wpm code test. So much for CW being required to weed out the misfits!)

Very much so, there are areas in the world that do not have internet, and Hams(Yay Us!) connect in many ways.

I disagree, they are good guardians. Sluggo is well adjusted, moral, honest, upright, he just needed someone around full time. I suspect that Sluggo would not be adopted by Phil and Dixie, uh, sorry, Fritzi. That would ruin the marriage plans.
