Delta: "We made it, Bern. Relax. Breathe. Ok?"
Bernice: "Ok"
Delta: "Now stride in there and show 'em your professionalism!!"
Delta: "What?"
Bernice: "Wrong door"
The saving grace is that Bernice DID NOT give up and abandon this interview. She showed up that’s crucial. How could a counsellor encourage a client to hang in there and never give up if the counsellor herself was a quitter.
Luann!…brought to you by: Beth’s Steel, Inc….And by… Self-Pep Talcs….When you don’t want to “take a powder”…And by… Doors…. By…. Papsi Cool-A… “You’ve got the right one baby…eventually”…Also by…. Cornelius Bros./Sister Rose, Inc…. “cos it’s Too Late To Turn Back now”….
Whether Bernice gets the job or not, I am proud of her for trying to go through with the interview. Late and grimey or not, she made an appointment and is going to see it through even if she feels she has already lost her chance. That’s character, and I hope her interviewer sees that. And I hope Bernice gets the job! // And I also want to see Tiffany again real soon!
She wants to intern as a counselor. Seeing what she overcame to reach the interview, even though the situation is not the best, shows her determination and speaks volumes about her character. I’d cut her a break.
Whats implausible about it? They had car issues. The fact that they came anyway as opposed to calling and whining about what happened shows true character. Oh and ITS A CARTOON!!!!
Props! -—And I agree, it could be one of those " When I was your age, we learned to deal with this stuff and like it!" sort of pep talks (or lectures…ha ha!)
MikeyJ – love your cartoon today; it’s a “how can I make lemonade out of this can of worms” moment.*Persistence, resilience, I do hope Bern gets the internship. Just don’t sit in a cloth chair if you’ve got oil on your pants.*If Delta was offered, and accepted, the internship instead, that would be the end of the friendship. That’d be as bad as seducing a friend’s guy.
No problem…I once served on an interview panel and we saw all kinds of folks show up for interviews – one fella showed up in a clown costume – part-time clown late leaving from a gig. Another guy showed up with grease-stained shirt and slacks due to car trouble. Life happens (the clown got the job that time around, “greasy” got a call back and was offered a position 3 months later, which he turned down)
Two types of interviewers would like Bern’s appearance:1) The “mom” type who would want to fix her problems2) The competent type who would see past the problems to her strengths.*One type of interviewer would hold her appearance against her:1) The lazy, shallow interviewer who just looks for reasons to write candidates off.
Yeah…. my only guess is it’s for all the people who don’t like to read comments or who just likes to comment but doesn’t really check them before posting…. (with respectful exception to those who can’t check back as often…)
Was this put in place because Luann is hogging all the comments?
^To go along with what you’ve said, and as you yourself can attest to, there are many of us who comment on other strips…. I only bother to comment on six or seven, myself, and only three of those on a regular basis… but that’s just me… but in reading other comics, I see that the ones of us on here also do so on others…. and I’ve seen some whose comments span MANY other strips… hope they realize this…
P.S. I really like Delta in today’s strip— fixing Bern’s hair, giving a motivational speech, sending her in proud & confident, then sympathizing about the wrong portal. Beam me up, Scotty, you sent me through a wrong portal too.
I agree. This strip has too many comments. There should be a limit of 2 or 3 comments per day, per user. Each should be limited to 500 characters or less. Short and sweet instead of long winded and rambling. Let’s see if the site operator is actually listening today?
Augh! I just logged back in, clicked on load the rest of the comments, and got ambushed by a full page ad. It REALLY slowed down the loading process, and I have DSL. Maybe the introduction of ads explains the missing REFRESH button?
“maybe it has more to do with those using smart phones and small tablets than computers….”^You’re right! I forgot… I used to use my Android for the net, and since I got my laptop, I forgot all about that… and it’s consistent with what Hawthorne said earlier, using a Kindle. As far as ‘8’ is concerned, I have also been hearing many people’s dissatisfaction….
Well, Galaxies are nice! But my wife’s Galaxy Prevail is the smallest Galaxy there is, and that loads pretty slow. Wait… GoComics did say they just launched an app for phones, so it has to be why they switched to the new load feature… it makes sense!
Did she walk into the maintenance man’s closet? (because they don’t call them janitors anymore.) Was he in there with one of the administrative assistants? (because they don’t call them secretaries anymore.)

Kudos to Bernice. Bet she lands the job.

Try to look professional in an oily pant suit and you’re a little late. Kudos for just showing up, at least.

So, she DID go thru the wall to get past it…. oh, wait…. wrong wall…..
JayBluE over 11 years ago
This was just an experience that she didn’t yet put down on her resume, that’s all…… selling point for the particular position….

And it was the old two doors down trick! maybe part of the “screening process”….

I thought they’d at least swap clothes.

Let’s see, is this more like Shakespeare’s “A Comedy of Errors” or Dante’s " The Divine Comedy"? You make the call.

It could be that Valeville is not really too far away, at all… Maybe 40 min.?

Why does this strip generate so many comments, so quickly?
Angelalex242 over 11 years ago
They’re probably taking interviews once every half hour
Be hilarious if the interviewer was already on the next person, who showed up immaculately dressed and early ;)

Bernice and Delta should’ve switched clothes. I bet Delta gets the job somehow.

Sooner or later, Bernice will have to run out of bad luck….

I’m enjoying seeing this more “human” side of the 2 “miss perfects” of the strip… next phase, Tiff finds out she has an IQ of 260! (Yeah, riiiiiight!)

Yesterday I thought the universe was telling Bernie something, but today perhaps it was just testing her.

Tomorrow’s strip: she’ll have her interview with AE, who’ll see her immediately after she finishes with Tiffany.
