Kim: So how cool are you? An advance degree from MIT? Alex: Which you found too easy! Kim: No, I didn't I was just messing with you. No way it was easy. Alex: Too hard? Kim: No, just hard! I was too lazy to do the work. Alex: Oh, my God! Kim: What? Alex: So was I! I only took guts like DNA sequencing and string theory!

DNA Sequencing and String Theory?Geez, take then early in the morning, catch a nap during the lecture and still ring up an easy A.In my dreams.
Linguist almost 12 years ago
The only string theory I learned in college was about how…..never-mind.

Linguist, you ole sea dog. How are things in Ecuador?

Clark, I think Gary was being sarcastic.

“Thank you for not feeding the trolls”OK, I OD’d yesterday, so I’ll swear off, at least for awhile. But I am kind of a junkie for Troll baiting, so I can’t promise to stay clean forever.

It is a great test of willpower to read the words of the tottaly ignorant & not want to provoke them , at least a little bit, just for the entertainment of us all. Its like driving past a bad accident when you know it is not proper to look, but you just have to!
asa4ever almost 12 years ago
Morgan Freeman et al have taught me all I know about quantum physics, absolutely nothing, but it is interesting. I kind of understand what someone is talking about until the commercial, when I forget it all.

Ok, the big question of the day is: What subject matter will nutsosarge find in today’s strip to rant about?!!!!
STAY TUNED!!!!
magicwalnut almost 12 years ago
Will do. Only, I was sort of enjoying calling Tucci “Tushie”.
Kip W almost 12 years ago
Pretty much agreed, but I only use ‘Flag’ when there is flat-out personal irrelevant insulting. Strong expression of opinion is one thing, but group insults — particularly of those to whom you are speaking — are over the ‘flag’ line.
Draganfly almost 12 years ago
Long time reader, first time poster. Had to log in the other day due to my uncontrolled urge to FLAG. Sure wish we had a LIKE button. But I won’t tell you who I flag & who I like LOL

As I said yesterday, Rachel Maddow gave a shout out to GT on her show last night. A great segment about Millicent Fenwick and Lacy Davenport was shown. Frank Lautenberg, who died yesterday, beat Millicent Fenwick. Lautenberg was 89, and a WWII vet, as well as a US Senator.
ChessPirate almost 12 years ago
And they’re off! Watch the fur fly as the trolls feed each other!
Nelly55 almost 12 years ago
totally agree
montessoriteacher almost 12 years ago
One should be able to make a comment on a comment section about politics, if it is a cartoon strip which tends to embrace the political world. Lacy Davenport was one of the characters in Doonesbury before she passed away a few years back. If you perceive making a comment about Lacy Davenport and her connection to Millicent Fenwick and Frank Lautenberg (on the occasion of his death) as feeding the trolls, maybe you should examine your own thinking, ChessPirate.

This week, let us all just be happy for Alex.
Gokie5 almost 12 years ago
Geez, I wish the troll-bashing addicts wouldn’t bring UP the topic! That summons them. In some ways, you’re as bad as they are. Maybe we all can have a mini-vacation whenever Garry isn’t being political?
WaitingMan almost 12 years ago
A number of today’s top theoretical physicists are starting to think that string theory is hogwash. Just like everything Guard SGT posts. (Sorry, couldn’t resist.)
pawpawbear almost 12 years ago
If it ain’t one thing it’s another. Maddening isn’t it.
TCulberson almost 12 years ago
I am SOOOO grateful that RSR is in charge of the comments section of this strip. Good thing, otherwise there would be no room for his usual massive intelligence dumps.

for the clueless, what does Alex mean by GUTS classes

“Before you know it, you’ll be able to order PhD’s on line!”-You’ve always been able to do that. The problem has always been that nobody respects them.-Still, I refer you to James Michner’s SPACE in which the German rocket scientists didn’t have time to get PhDs in America so they bought them from Strabismus and continued their amazing work.-One of the saddest things in the book was when Strabismus realized he could have done the type of work they were doing and have contributed to human knowledge had he not spent his time fleecing the ignorant.
David Huie Green LikeNobody'sEverSeen almost 12 years ago
If the Usurper was Republican, GT could be penning about the following:. .. . Forgery . . . Illegal Assumed Name"-Don’t let anyone fool you. It is legal for you to call yourself “Guard SGT”-You don’t have to go home and slap your mother for not actually naming you that good name.
David Huie Green LikeNobody'sEverSeen almost 12 years ago
““GUTS” for General Useless Term Studies like DNA sequencing and String Theory. That is how I analyze it.”-Of course you do.-However, knowledge is never useless. You may choose to not know and you may choose to not use it, but if you don’t, your enemies may decide to use it on you.-The truly paranoid would be afraid to remain ignorant.
David Huie Green LikeNobody'sEverSeen almost 12 years ago
oops, looks like it dropped my correction of my statement.Guts classes are easy classes for nonmajors.Alex menitoned some of the most difficult classes in existence and pretended like they were easy classes. She was joking.
Warren Wubker almost 12 years ago
I’d like to know what degree requires both DNA sequencing and string theory.
David Huie Green LikeNobody'sEverSeen almost 12 years ago
again trying to correct previous comment, not seeing them come outGuts classes are easy classesBy calling harder classes guts classes, Alex was joking.
marvee almost 12 years ago
We use to call easy classes pud classes. I wonder if the term “guts” really did develop from “general useless term studies” and NightGaunt’ was not expressing his/her own opinion of them. And, of course, the humor is that virtually nobody would think those subjects easy.
tigerchik32 almost 12 years ago
I first learned about gene splicing watching Jurassic Park. I’m also a geek so I learned string theory watching Nova.

I was going to mention a couple articles I read today. But I don’t want to start tirades. However, in fairness they must be mentioned. One was talking about Joe Biden breaking secrecy about which Seal Team had killed Osama bin Laden. It was incredibly sstupid. The other was about the lack ofdue process in killing American citizens because they have allegedly turned against America. These people have been killed by drones in countries that we are not at war with. No one is decrying the lack of due process. Then the FBI killed an unarmed suspect in his own home in Florida. One shot was center mass to the back of his head. Again, where was due process? Just putting my two cents worth in.RespectfullyJP

Well at least they finally shwed up.(not that I don’t still want Alex to answer the deepest mysteries of the universe)
lindz.coop Premium Member almost 12 years ago
Wow, what a relief from the hate mail! At least most of the comments are about the comic for once. I always love Alex’s non-assuming brilliance — balanced by her clueless emotional outbursts and Toggle’s ability to handle them so amazingly.

“When doing business like running for office, one MUST use their legal name. Barry’s step dad legally changed Obama’s name to Barry Soetoro. There is no court record of it legally being changed back. So using the name Obama is a crime.”-Nope, only if done to defraud. He took back his given name, he has that right.
