Angus wins the day. And Holly is truly bonker central. Usually there’s some kind of reaction when a jumper is caught, whether a sudden realization of fear, or trying to break free from the one who grabbed them. She’s in crazy land right now.

She’s not gone. She’s overwhelmed by grief and doesn’t care what is happening now.

    Go Angus and Wally! Euuugh Hollllyyyyy!!! I knew neither of them were going to die right here (I know this strip is dark, but it’s not that dark!). I am glad to see that Angus saved them! Now they can pull Holly up and try to pull her out of her grief-stricken madness. ;-;

Well, I was half right. It’d be either Angus, or no one and Wally would be on his own. Then again, I put my money on Wally alone, so maybe I’m only a quarter right.Angus could try tying Wally in place with his tongue and then going for help…

Angus makes up for his slowing Wally down. I guess I’ll let him live. ;-)I am relieved, as I half expected this to end with the two of them falling, followed by Wally wrapping himself around Holly and saving her at the cost of his own life. This would, of course, have left Holly even further traumatized than she was before. It remains to be seen if Angus is able to get them both back to the platform safely, but it certainly looks a lot better than yesterday. As for Holly’s mental state. Obviously she is in terrible pain and despair – far beyond depression. But how far gone is she?As has been noted above, her total lack of response upon being rescued by Wally could be a very bad sign, if she is conscious. When looking at yesterday’s and today’s comics, her seeming lack of any change of expression would make me think that she is unconscious, other than yesterday’s panel two.It seems that her expression there might be showing some reaction to having been caught (has Wally actually snagged her at that point?).If this was just my imagination or a reflexive reaction, then Holly may just have completely passed out from the combination of what she had been through and what she was about to do.I’m hoping that’s the case, since it would indicated an easier recovery for Holly than if she was conscious but completely unresponsive. If fact, is there any possibility that she become totally overwhelmed and passed out after saying “I’m sorry…” and fell rather than actively trying to commit suicide?Thank G-d Aaron is going to let us resume breathing this weekend instead of looking to hire a cheap time machine to see what happens next Monday!

It could be Holly’s lack of response is that she’s emotionally numb right now. All that went on, all those unnecessary deaths, caused her sweet li’l heart to shut down for now. I’m hoping Wally’s got enough TLC to bring her back to… well, as close to “normal” as one can get in Endtown.

As soon as I see “Jayce_C” on a comment, I just automatically skip it. I know for sure there’s nothing in it I want to read. Can’t imagine why he thinks the stuff he writes contributes anything to the discussion—or the strip.Pretty much the same for MEM, who seems incapable of empathy.Jus’ sayin…

Whether Holly has slipped past the sick point into a potential case of PTSD or not, she needs to be rescued from her psychic state soon after she has been rescued physically. The sooner the healing, the faster and more complete it can be, but not without leaving a permanent change and hopefully making her stronger. Ditto in a less intense way for Wally.

It would be very interesting if she was pregnant, and if the fetus looked like completely normal human, with the same immunity that Al has.

Holly’s still conscious. She’s still crying. She may be thinking that Wally caught her safely and is resigning herself to deal with living. She doesn’t realize he’s in mortal danger too.

Bad spot. If Holly has flashed back to an earlier loss, then her mind is in the past (her eyes are closed and she isn’t reacting to being grabbed) and she will be limp, and this might be workable. If this is a new trauma, Holly may start struggling against her rescuer(s) to make herself fall. That could doom them all.

I just remembered. Wally once went airborn from a much higher spot to grab Holly when she was freefalling; off the Opabinia Queen. On 5/11/12. Of course, she hadn’t jumped that time.

I have been watching the clock. It is just a little after 12:30. Someone some days ago commented about the clock struck one, the mouse fell down, hickory dickory doc. The is enough time for fire department to get there with a couple of nets before 1:00 o’clock, if Wally and Angus and Holly’s apron strings hold. Of course this is Endtown, anything can happen. As twcowdery wrote, I hope it is not Marx. I too would prefer the Endtowners solve their own problem. Mallard is on Endtown main level, and I don’t see him letting Petey get too far from his reach. Mallard may have implanted an override to Petey’s controls after his brain was transferred to a robot by Flask/Blackie, and then returned to Endtown. I think Petey would have to be in independent mode to effect a rescue.JusSayin

If’n I remember correctly, anteaters have extremely powerful front legs/arms for digging into nests. If that translates into this mutuant state Angus should be able to pull them both up…

Suicides are usually caused by self reversing intense episodes of depression.

Lock them up for 72 hours and they no longer want to commit suicide.

On Aaron Marx and his role in all this…as has been said a couple of times, Marx is working and acting “for the greater good.” But as the Monk-Rat (did we ever get his name?) said a couple weeks ago, “I don’t think I like the greater good much.”

Robert Nowall,Well, given that “the greater good” involved the incarceration of three innocent women, the miscarriage of one pregnancy, the deaths of three rats and a whole bunch of citizens due to a riot, the death of one mostly harmless blowhard AND Holly’s attempted suicide, I don’t think many of us would LIKE the greater good. Aaron Marx has definitely given us the impression that he doesn’t like the greater good either but apparently thinks the alternative is even worse. I do hope that we hear Marx’s justification for his actions some day.

New question for Aaron or the readership. Is it just my imagination, or has Holly been GROWING? I mean, panel one she’s not much smaller than Wally, but back two years she was a LOT smaller than he is. (See the strip from Aug 1, 2011 to see what I mean ==> <<gocomics.com/endtown/2011/08/01>>

If writers wrote what the readers would, there’d be no point in reading what they already know.

DragonRydr,The way characters are drawn tends to evolve as a strip progresses. A classic example being Opus’ nose in the strip “Bloom County” which actually started as having reasonable dimensions but eventually grew to be larger (in volume) than the rest of his head. I have noted a few examples of character evolution in “Endtown”. Both Wally and Holly changed in appearance from what they looked like in their debuts in the strip and Flask’s breasts have grown larger in Books 3 & 4 than they were when she was persecuting Al and Gustine in Book 2. I guess its one of the things that happens when somebody is hand drawing a comic strip. Either the artist subconsciously changes the way the characters look or after looking at them for awhile or decides that he likes them better if they are drawn differently. Its a curious business.
