Donā€™t eat yellow snow, or well, inhale a burning forest any more?

Saw some Marines ordered to burn a field in ā€˜Nam one day, their CO didnā€™t know ā€œplant communitiesā€. He ended up having thirty guys running around deeply inhaling from their ā€œZippo raidā€, a happy break for them. I donā€™t think the idiot CO ever did catch on.

Yes, someone had speculated on how the fire started in Colorado, saying it was due to pot farmers. However, this was disproven. GT just couldnā€™t resist the story of what had been assumed earlier. Canā€™t say I blame him. And no, it had nothing to do with another fire in which 19 firefighters died. Welcome back LWP! Glad to see a current strip from GT!

I work with a guy who wholeheartedly believed the pot farmers started the Yosemite fire. Went on and on about how bad the clandestine farms are for the environment. (and yes, like most commercial farming it is). Now that it is a hunter, this guy says he doesnā€™t trust it, that ā€˜theyā€™ always lay the blame on whoever they want to and as there is a large coalition of anti-hunting types in CAā€¦..

The same with LSD.ā€-So THATā€™S why you are as you are.Not that we donā€™t all love you.I had a neighbor who never quite came back from an LSD trip. She often called 911 to report aliens were trying to steal her perspective.

So we are now saying that farming starts fires? I had not heard that one, unless it is being implied that they were started in order to cover illegal activity of growing pot. In any case, that is not what happened. However, Mother Nature can have wildfires at times. Growing practices can be tricky and if an area is prone to wildfires I suppose this could cause danger, but one could also say this about timber, for example. But again, the pot growing theory has been disproven.

As the daughter of a firefighter (long before SCBA, helmets, turn out gear & when asbestos was thought to be the firemanā€™s "friend), the mother of another and having worked as a ā€œsocial memberā€ of a fire department for many years, I find todays strip highly offensive. Maybe I missed the ā€œmessageā€, but itā€™s long been known that firefighters (and yes, police), rush in when all others rush out ( REMEMBER 9/11???), Iā€™m very offended by the attitude todays strip seems to portray. Anyone of these brave men & women, if told when sirens wail and pagers tone, that theyā€™d not be going home this day, almost without exclusion they would tell you ā€œok, but if I can save one life today, mine would not be lost in vainā€. I personally think the author of this strip and the papers who printed it should be put on a fire line or asked to man a hose while entering a burning structure ā€” then perhaps theyā€™d put out the apology I feel is more than necessary!!! Remember, just a short time ago 9 brave men fighting to save lives and property gave theirs in that service. Apologize, at least, to their families and all those who perished on 9/11.

The police department came and gave us the ā€œtalkā€ in 8th grade. Toward the end of the talk, he lit about an ounce of pot on a screen over a coffee can. The whole class got real close to make sure they knew what it smelled like.

Even the cafeteria food was good that day.
