Looks like Diet DID let the Space Coupe escape, on purpose… but, why? Did he mean to strand those people in outer space?

Destroy all Moon Tech? Retik and Stelluna want to travel to the Moon. I see more conflict on the horizon.

What is Diet’s plan?

First the moon equipment can’t be used now one is gone and all the rest to be taken apart and destroyed. I am truly saddened by it.^^Not me, the last thing we need is a return to the Moon era

Good morning DT fans!Curiouser and curiouser! Why would Diet do that? Right in front of Retik and Stellaluna?

Diet deliberately sent the Space Coupe away, according to the narration, he didn’t know there was anyone actually inside. Perhaps he’s decided the technology is too dangerous to even have locked up anymore.

Dismantle the Moon Tech? Does that include Mysta?

I have to agree to some extent….it really looks like Dick Lochner’s interest and/or focus on the strip was lagging badly especially in the last year he was doing it. Hindsight being 20/20 of course, he – like many professional sports stars – stayed in the game a little too long.

Maybe Retik and Stellaluna will have the job of getting Mysta ready to function in society once whatever Diet Smith is set to release about her happens.

I’m not liking what’s about to go down.

Speaking of tying up loose ends in the strip… When are we going to know what happened to Broadway Bates (ex?) GF, Belle? Did she survive the shooting? Is she going to reform? Or, maybe go after Bates, looking for revenge?

Can we have 2 consecutive days with the same scenario EVER? Moon Maids identity with Junior to Abner K to Diet to….I’m starting to think the best way to read this is once every week or two……this reminds me exactly of people who keep switching from song to song on the radio, never allowing more than half to play through…

Perhaps Diet Smith is dying and doesn’t trust anyone to carry on with his inventions . He launched the space coupe as a memorial/tribute to himself to be found when mankind can return to space on their own…

And why is Diet’s finger emphasized in the last panel ???

Diet is being very decisive, as the owner-CEO-COO-CFO of a privately-held company may be. But his motives remain murky. And who are “the rest of our group”? What group? What is he up to, trying to erase all Lunarian technology from earth? —And who or what is “Moon Maid,” after all? Let’s just get it all out in the open and be done with it.

If Diet could have his techs dismantle everything related to the moon, why didn’t he just dismantle the Space Coupe? Why go through all this drama about sending it into deep space?

sdmatt when are you getting those cataracts taken care of? diet’s cigar is in his HAND in the first panel and THEN his mouth in the 2nd and 3rd… you got it backwards buddy!

and as for HOW it got to his mouth, i am gonna go out on a limb here and say that he PUT IT THERE when he went to use the intercom.

and the “LL” in the corner are the shades/coverings of the standing pole lamp in his office… when you clear up those cataracts you will probably see it much clearer :)

as for the “swiss army knife” comment… you lost me there, unless it’s his model of the space coupe that youre talking about

My take is that since Diet found out that organizedcrime wants his technology, he is going to rid himself (and therefore the baddies) of that access. That is why he sent the Coupe on a one-way ticket outta here. And, I have an idea he knew it was full of crooks when he dd so.

It looks like Diet Smith has no interest in leading humanity into a “Star Trek” era.

We also got fast than light travel, teleportation, matter replication, and the elimination of poverty and want. The Eugenics war and WWlll was the result of human immaturity fear and avarice, and it has been shown in the Trek series that we have begun to outgrow that nonsense.

Diet Smith’s technology would have made us a spacefaring race, with colonies across the solar system, and preparing to launch us into the interstellar night. I can understand why the writers choose to get rid of the tech because of the nature of the strip, but if Diet Smith was a real person, I could not see him as anything but a traitor to humanity.

Of course, the fact that Diet Smith makes a point, before witnesses, of ordering the “moon tech” destroyed does not mean that he is actually having the moon tech destroyed. As with recent events involving a space coupe . . .

Dick Tracy is 1000 times better than it was three years ago. The stories are complex and exciting, and the art is out of this world great. Literally! What could I possibly have to complain about?-—————————————————-I will be very happy if Mysta sticks around and I hope they keep the space theme going. And speaking of space themes, I am still wondering when we’re going to see Notta Chin Chillar again? I keep thinking about those brief scenes we saw of her a few months ago, but since then, Notta thing. Does anyone know for sure if Curtis and Staton have plans for her? She was always a favorite of mine and I was hoping we’d see her in action again before too long.

Also, I look at it this way. The Civil War and World War ll had to happen to enable me to be a free citizen of the United States in the 21st century. As horrible as they were, the Eugenics Wars and World War lll were probably necessary to enable one to be a citizen of the Federation in the 24th.

I’m not sure I like Diet Smith’s plans. I certainly do hope the MM/Mysta will appear from time-to-time, though. I suppose we’ll find out the truth about MM/Mysta in Sunday’s strip.

We must remember that Mr. Gould did wish to close down the Moon era in the 1970s and Mr. Collins did, with that horrible set of strips.

I believe now the current team wishes to do the same, but do it in the correct way. Do not leave ways to return to it.

Although sadden by this turn of events. I will support them. After all, Dick Tracy was and still is a crime/detective storyline, not science fiction.

Still too; I am pleased to understand that Mysta will remain with us. A very attractive, and sweet character who needs more time. Hopefully this time, she will be given a more rounded development instead of being the ‘model of the week’ that strips needed back then.

After reading all of today’s posts, I have to say that I am going to weigh in with the folks that are asking, “Why would Team Tracy bring all this Moon Era & Moon Maid back just to get rid of it”? Sadly we went 30 some years with out it. I think there is more to the story here. Just yesterday I was wondering about Retik and Stellaluna,thinking “I guess we will never see those two again, and how sad that they were not able to fulfill their lifelong dream of going to the Moon”. I Diet wouldn’t be hiring them if the was planning on TRULY doing away with ALL the Moon technology. I vote to keep Moon Maid in the story forever!

On another note, regarding Diet Smith and his conversation with Retik and Stellaluna:

Diet: “Ummmm, I’d like to start the interviews now. Retik, could you please leave the room?”

Diet: “Stellaluna, can you type? You are shaking your head ‘No’. That’s OK. Do you have a Moon Maid suit? Yes? That’s good. Wear it.”

Stellaluna: What am I supposed to do?"

Diet: “Talk Retik into quitting and you’ve earned your first raise.”

The Moon Maid story is drawing to a close. I think that is clear (as mud)..It has been said, and I would echo, that Mike and Joe have been cautious on their use of the Space Coupe. I, personally, disagree with the idea of totally dismantling all of it, just as I was appalled by the dispatch of the Sparkle Plenty to parts unknown..Of course, knowing that Mike and Joe are heavy into symbolism, that act alone might not bode well for the current Mrs. Tracy!.I was one (of several) who thought that Diet might get shot and perhaps killed in the shootout – after all, once he had taken Ghote for a ride in the coupe, “after all, isn’t that what you and Dr. Sail were really after,” I figured Diet had become rather expendable. But, as we all know, that didn’t happen..Dietrich’s actions the last couple of weeks add even more obfuscation because he has been less than honest with Dick Tracy, at the very least..In fact, there has been so much obfuscation added to the story that perhaps even the narrator got mixed up last Sunday. Again, as Willy007 has pointed out, deadlines for Sunday panels are ahead of the dailies; perhaps we have another out-of-sync panel, not unlike Ghote’s shooting by Mumbles the week before..I suppose that Thursday, Friday, and tomorrow’s panels are pretty much to “mark time” until the big finale, which we can hope will be Sunday..In the mean time, I feel a bit let down. And I think my current postage stamp reflects my mood.
