Off Topic. But I was just thinking about the space coupe. I’d wager that Diet didn’t want to have anything more to do with space travel. That is why he used the remote to send it aimlessly into space.
He stated that he destroyed all the plans and technology and that the inventor is dead. So now no one can ever build another one.
Yeah, I’m not too keen on the idea of a Popeye tie-in. I’ve never read Popeye comics, but watching the cartoons as a kid, I got the impression Popeye’s world was way too unreal to be a part of DT’s world.
Say, has it ever been hinted that Popeye has — you know, a real name?? Could his surname be Eislander??? With the permanent squint, deep lines on the cheeks and cleft chin, he and B.B. Eyes could be brothers!
I did a Moon Maid pumpkin for Halloween this year. I’ll do like Margueritem, and make it my avatar for a few days.Let me know what you all think of it.
It’s a cameo for Popeye and Olive. Dick and Tess are on vacation. Let Team Tracy have a little fun. I read this strip to have fun and add a little enjoyment to my day. They deserve a little fun putting it together as well. Anybody out there who doesn’t think this is still the best strip going?
Olive looks so…Olive-y! I didn’t expect that! But I don’t mind it, either. Let the ladies (and Team Tracy) have a good laugh, and we’ll join in. I wonder what Dick and Popeye are talking about…? Will we cut back to the Murder Mansion tomorrow, stay here at the lake, or go somewhere else (Black Heart HQ, maybe)? —This is, after all, more like a contemporary movie, with lots of quick cuts.
If Popeye broke regulation and grew a Red Sox beard, he might look a lot like B.O. Plenty. And Olive’s curves (or lack thereof) aren’t dissimilar to Gravel Gertie’s, are they?
Now, for one day and 3 panels, a little playful referencing is fine (and fun)…but, today seems to be going a bit far (if we need comic relief, we always have the Plentys).
After being completely absorbed into the last arc, it is rather difficult to get interested in a Popeye thriller. What’s next? Little Lulu? Tracy needs to do what he was hired to do……. this must be homage to Locher. Gould would be so proud (barf)!
This is too much to deal with on the heels of the Moon Maid saga. DT needs a detox. Let’s have a good old fashioned crime yarn without the cuteness please.
StillDaMatt, since Marty & Spud dropped off the charts, you really need something to do. Combing through year-old archives and deleting context pretty much exemplifies that.
“……Dick Tracy, he’s got a Bulldog jaw…….Dick Tracy, he’s the Arm of theLaw…”appolgies to kiddie host Chuck McCann and “Let’s Have Fun” WPIX ch 11 in the 60’s!

Disappointing – - your observation ability yesterday, on exactly where the cigar and the Mitchell hands were, but you’re reminiscing better on the Locherpast today, even celebrating by providing a convincing version of the Dr.Noll 2009 – House “Explosion”!. http://www.gocomics.com/dicktracy/2009/01/11#.UnPHIIzD85s
Surely you remember those Angelorios floating brackets, Tracy calling - “911 fast”, after Dr. Noll was shot, while you and other readers had to wonder why -‘THEY’ never arrived ?http://www.gocomics.com/dicktracy/2009/02/10#.UnPRlYzD85s
Guess you got some ‘practice’ back then, on story contradictions. Good lad ! Scratch the concrete again tomorrow, you may get a new ‘clew’ !
The “Thimble Theater” strip was originally about the Oyl family. Cole and ’Nana Oyl and their children Castor and Olive, along with Olive’s boyfriend, Ham Gravy. It was about ten years into the strip when Castor and Ham were going to visit an offshore casino on Dice Island, and they had to hire a sailor to get them there. At the end of the storyline, Popeye was dismissed, but almost immediately he came back and took over the strip. It was not the only time that happened. Nancy and Snuffy Smith, for example, did the same, and one strip had a whole chain of main characters over the years—The Great Gusto, Chief Wahoo, Steve Roper, and Mike Nomad—during which the strip changed from a cartoony gag strip to a realistic adventure serial. A recent example is Dethany Dendrobia from “On the Fastrack”.
I saw the strip where Popeye was introduced. Forgive my memory but I know Castor was walking along a pier pointing and asks to a character off panel, “Hey! Are you a sailor?” The next panel is Popeye standing there and replies, “What does ya think I am, a cowboy?”
This is not the first time Popeye and Olive made a cameo in another strip. I seem to recall a comic where Popeye and Olive were drawn in a more realistic style, but I can’t remember the name of the strip they appeared. But I can see those images as plain as day. If I remember one day, I’ll post a new reply.
I just had a brilliant theory last night while I was in bed. Remember the South Park episode where Cartman thought Kenny’s ashes was chocolate milk mix and he drank the ashes and Kenny’s soul got trapped in Cartman’s body? Well what if Moon Maid’s soul somehow got trapped in Glenna’s body after she was transformed into Mysta Chimera?
DT 101 OK. Popeye goes back to 1929 and Tracy to 1931. Almost a decade before Superman and Batman come on the scene. I guess they know each other pretty well. This is the origin of the funny pages. Be Cool….

Notice this a lot in most Hollywood movies & seeing it on display here— When (2) women talk in a scene, the subject inevitably revolves around a man.
