I remember kids doing stuff like that from long ago. Only one died: slammed into the side of a bridge. This isn’t meant to sound sick, but undertakers can be really artful and creative when repairing a person’s remains.
As middle-aged-crossing-into-elderly male, brother to 2 of the same, father of 3 sons in their 30s, and now with a grandson, all I can say is that I’m amazed any male lives long enough to reproduce…………
My daughter is an elementary school librarian. When she read the story “Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type” to her 2nd graders she asked to borrow her mother’s 1960s college typewriter to explain the story to the kids. Google the title if you are not familiar with it. Cute story.
When I was kid after a snow storm we watched a driver in a car actually do close to what Calvin talked of. Driver, rope, and pulling child on sled on top of snow with driver driving car not hwy speed and not quite residential speed a child on sled no PD to stop the action child did not get hurt nor receive fumes from car exhaust.
A fun thing in our area used to be to use a rope to tie an old car hood behind a car and use as a sled in the snow.Sport lost popularity after several kids were killed!
We used to tie a jump rope to the back of the sissy bars on our stingray bikes and pull our friends on roller skates (not the inline kind because those weren’t out yet) all around the neighborhood on the sidewalks. It was super fun and we’d take turns. Did you know it’s not hard to ride the bike while wearing the roller skates when it’s your turn to drive? FUN.
Some years ago I saw Gallagher doing something similar. He put skateboard wheels on a pair of water skis, then held onto a towrope attached to a boat on a trailer, which in turn was towed by a vehicle.
They got up to speed, then the skateboard wheels hit something in the road. Gallagher fell to the street & broke his elbow. With his arm in a cast & sling, he required an assistant to do the Sledge-O-Matic number.

I’m surprised that Calvin’s Mom did not take him up on it.

Dad would probably say yes…and then he could get a dog.
And before the happiness police jump on my case, I’m being sarcastic.

I didn’t notice the typewriter at first – but I did notice the 55mph, now defunct, speed limit.

We use the typewriter function of Adobe Acrobat to fill out forms and laser print in triplicate when needed.
