Wow, Howard U !…. Delta’s going places…literally!.And according to the map, only about… say… a couple feet away from Cali-forni? Not a bad commute!… – One of these days finally came for Bern- Bang, Zoom! Straight to Moony Uni! … – And… uh… it’s nice that, uh…..well… If Lu turns in that parking app in time, she’d have the privelege of parking at a College that is the pride of the county!

I agree with ORMouse. Actually teaching at a community college makes me biased, but they are great places to start one’s college education. Cheap, and if you do well you can get into a 4 year with help a lot easier than from high school, Plus they offer degrees that allow people to get good jobs after 2 years of school. So Luann is going to do just fine, and if Quill goes to Mooney, that is basically across town.

I assume Quill will be going to Moony Uni to study with Mrs. Manezone? And Gunther will be a student at Moony all the way through grad school? The most likely candidate to join Luann at Pitt CC would be Knute, but even if he enrolls, he would flunk out in one semester. It’s time for Luann to meet some new people!

A short while back, Tiffany told Luann that she was going to Moony U. Knute might possibly end up going to a vocational-technical institute. I can imagine Crystal going to cosmetology school, unless she ends up as a cocktail waitress. It has been established that Quill will go to Moony. Gunther has stated his intention to attend Moony. Ox probably isn’t considered junior college material, unless he gets a football scholarship. It seems clear that Luann will meet some new people…

Unfortunately, a lot of times this is true. It all depends on your course of study…I don’t think Liberal Arts studies are conducive getting a job…but having a serious history of volunteering along with a degree helps a Lot…JMO ;)

The public transit for our region goes right to and through the campuses of the major Universities and Junior Colleges in our area… so, if there’s no car, there’s still convenient access, and the transportation lets students off right at the door!…..

Yup! Parking at my old CC was at least possible. I was so excited to get a parking spot (and a good one!) last week at my university that I told everyone about it! Heck, I’m still excited, and I moved my car a long time ago. Thankfully, I usually live within busing distance.

Luann, enjoy your parking possibilities while you have them!

Wow, it is really unbelievable that Bern got a full ride. Sadly, it probably won’t last longer than freshman year, or it wouldn’t if it were real life.

JCs in AZ give athletic scholarships. Usually it covers tuition and some money toward books. Re the comment about Bernice losing her scholarship: the universities here used to give out full academic scholarships ( not to be confused with a full ride) to the top 10% in every high school. They could afford this because of the large number who never used them and the larger number who couldn’t maintain an unrealistic GPA and lost the scholarship their freshman year.’

You can save thousands of dollars in tuition loans by starting a year or two at a community (or state branch) college.

I’m looking forward to the changes in this strip. I’ve been reading it since it started, but the high school scene has gotten old. Luann has had many experiences that many teens have, but no teen has had ALL the experiences that Luann has had. At times she has been a good role model. At other times I have questioned her behavior as risky to any young person. A boy in her bedroom with the door locked or the two of them alone in the house is asking for trouble. ~Community colleges are a good place to start college. American River in Sacramento was a top rated community college when I was a student there, yet there were a couple of classes I had that Sac State didn’t accept. The teachers were not really teaching. Any photo was considered art by one teacher who gave his students an easy “A”. The other was a teacher who “taught” a child psychology class. When it came to our final, she had all the answers written on the board in order of the test. All we had to do was copy. That was another easy “A”.

-Delta was kinda of a 60s throwback anyway, with the political stuff, I mean. Betty and Gloria would be proud !-Wow. You’re really out of date yourself. First of all, Friedan and Steinheim’s issues were about equal pay for women, not just taking care of the poor.-Secondly, I’m thinking Delta’s inspiration to care for poor people also came from religion and not just politics. And that’s not a ’60’s throwback. It’s a today thing, too.

No shame here. My son started at NVJC, transfered to UC Santa Cruz, and graduated with a degree in Biochem. His diploma doesn’t say anything about the JC and he saved a considerable amount of money.

Parents who have visited Berkeley tell me that the parking lot has lots of spaces marked “NL”. NL stands for Nobel Laureate. It seems when a professor wins a Nobel prize, s/he gets to choose between having an eponymous building or a parking space for life. Guess which they choose.

@Brdshtt – Sounds like your cousin was spoiled little rich kid. The real waste was the money his parents wasted on him and are still wasting on him. As long as a person pays the way for a individual who has never carried their own weight, the individual will never ever grow up. It is just human nature to follow the path of least resistance. Best thing these parents could do is cut the purse strings and kick him out. – - – -

As for LUANN – the character has never really been a hard core student and should not expect any other result than Junior College.

Gunther doesn’t get to leave, he’s destined to marry Luann. Rosa only exists to help Gunther come out of his shell and prepare him to be with Luann in the future. Search your feelings, you know it it to be true.

Up until Karen started helping her father Greg with the strip, I might have agreed with you. But I’m not so sure now. That may be one of the changes coming with her taking over the reigns (eventually). Lu may may find someone else. And, who knows, Gunther may follow Rosa, but may return later on to marry Lu.

Got my AA first with all the lower level requirements, went on to the university and was ahead of the rest of the juniors. On advantage, I went after serving four years in the AF so had a lot more real world experience, and got quite a bit of schooling there. GI bill paid for almost all of it.

The reason that Delta is at Howard is not for the… “obvious”.. reason that some people think. At least not in the way that people think. There is Stanford, Northwestern, Michigan, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, USC, UCLA, and a few other schools, but Howard is also a fine law school, that no one may go “out of their way” to mention. It is a “historically black college”, but it is also a historically prestigious institution , as well. It would seem nice to “protest” it’s use here, on the grounds of “being singled out” due to perceived similarities to background for a character, but by the same token, it is also a school with a proud tradition. It produced historically renowned legal figures such as Thurgood Marshall, and others. But It is also renowned as a great law school, and has traditions, and perhaps Greg just wanted to recognize it for this reason, or to make sure that such a school also got it’s mention, amongst the others. – It does seem to lend itself to that stigma of having Delta being put into a “corner” of sorts, but it’s pnly coincidental. the school itself fit’s Delta’s goals… (1) , to become a renowned lawyer, and (2) , to offer help to those in the inner city (regardless of background) per her own statement , as indicated in a previous strip about where she “wanted to be” ……

Did you not read my statement thoroughly?…. – People have an objection to wanting to “pigeonhole” a character, especially on grounds that in the past has been in an unsavory light, and they are not wrong to want to see this eradicated. – However, in all fairness, this is an issue that must receive a balanced treatment…. the world (of the United States) unfortunately sees “black and white” even though our eyes were meant to see in “all spectrums of color” … but, there is a need to appreciate history, and heritage, as well. Again, read my post a bit more carefully to get the true flavor of the statement (unless your statement was meant for other purposes)…..
