Excuse me Joe, but I work full time and have my own paycheck. I get to spend (at least part of it), any way I wish!This is a marriage, not a dictatorship.

Apparently, Philadelphia closed all of its public libraries.

Just what I was thinking StoicLion. I go to the library every single weekend. I love books! They are my only addiction. And between all the bad addictions that a person can have, this is a good one. Also, there are used bookstores as well. AND on many of those sites, you can get the same book, used, way cheaper than the original cost.

If I gave my wife this line, her first book would be “101 Uses For a Dead Husband”

Hubby and I are both avid readers. The first year we were married I belonged to a Mystery book club, and he to a Sci-Fi club. We got buried in books and nearly went bankrupt. (Slight exaggeration on the latter.) Off to the library! But I have to avert my eyes when I pass the “For Sale” rack by the door. As Meta said, there are far worse addictions.

There is also garage sales if women who are mostly ones who have books let them go cheap enough, and library.I do not have time for pleasure reading get me confused with studies.

Sorry after I left I got back on-line studies.Wishing Robb a Happy Belated birthday.For me I tried Sci-Fiction twice never again. I do not mind drama, not rough murder mystery and romance.I like this serious on books. Wish I could join a book club. I do not read fast I think my mind has issues so I would be too slow with too many books. Then have to get rid of the books. My mom cannot stand to read. She always goes by old wives tale she was told some time ago. And when she was in school the teacher’s did not know how to read they did not have teacher’s to speak of this was 75 or so years ago.Back from farm days HS students mostly boys brought in to teach grade school students and those boys knew very little.

ONE book per month?!?!? That is RIDICULOUS! When I was 10 years old, I read at least one book per week (real books, like Robert Louis Balfour Stevenson’s Treasure Island); by age 16, I was up to a book per day.

I wished there was a bookmobile drove our neighborhood when I was a kid but none. Our mom never brought us to a library.Someone yesterday named a web site for books. I know of free books read on-line from my lap top. That will have to wait.

Real books or 1 a those ‘dwindle’ things?

(1) Kab Buch – “I think my mind has issues . . .” You put that very nicely. I think mine does, too, since I can no longer keep it from doing whatever it wants! I’ll have to use that one.(2) dkcobb, I laughed at your “101 Uses for a Dead Husband” – well put!(3) I’m addicted to reading comments on, and commenting on, stuff on GoComics and Seattlepi. This isn’t expensive, except in time and that good old Feeling of Guilt because of stuff I’m not doing, like housework and processing the horde of stuff that’s accumulated during nearly fifty-four years of marriage.

Two words — Public Library

my dad was an avid reader. once a week he’d go to the public library to get a new armful of books.

You limit the purchase of books??? What’s next? Burning books like the Nazi? You can never buy too many books, my friends (although, granted, you have to read it, not just buy it for show)

I guess Joe’s not related to Levar Burton, Lol!….

With their jobs they should have plenty of income for books. Not to mention used bookstores that buy and sell.

One book a month? What is Marcie going to do for reading entertainment for the remaining 29 days?
